“Super room and great breakfast”
Reviewed November 1, 2010

Our family room was spacious and clean, the bathroom too. The breakfast was scrummy. Great location for exploring the wonderful Northumberland coast. Quick walk to the harbour for a boat trip round the Farne Islands. The town has good shops and a wide choice of places to eat. The owners keep themselves to themselves, but when needed were a great help when I had a flat tyre. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone visiting Seahouse . . . . as it is faultless.

Moira and Brian were great hosts: I hadn't got a car with me, and they offered and gave me lifts to Berwick and Alnwick. They gave lots of advice on where to eat out, even what to eat where! Excellent accommodation with all mod cons. At breakfast there was everything you could think of, and more, including kippers, of course.
Great location in the middle of the village of Seahouses, near pubs, restaurants, the harbour and boats to the Farne Islands. Bamburgh Castle just along the beach in one direction, Dunstanburgh a bit further the other way.

The Malabar is a lovely B&B, the rooms are very clean, modern and comfortable. The hosts were very welcoming and cook an excellent breakfast. There is off street parking. The location is excellent with an increasing number of restaurants in the village and the harbour only a short walk away. If you are there when the lifeboat is coming in or out you are in for real treat as it is hauled up the road by a little tractor and is quite a sight.

My one niggle about the Malabar is that they accepted a deposit by debit card but wanted the final bill payment only by cash or cheque. Although there is a cost to any business accepting electronic payment this is not a cheap B&B and some bills will be over £100. I do not expect to settle this size of bill with cash any more and I am not untypical in that view.

Cheques will disappear within 3 to 4 years, when that happens will the Malabar really still expect all their customers to settle the bill by cash and refuse electronic payment.? The owners work hard for their money but is time to add the credit /debit card cost to their other costs and if necessary put up their charges to cover it..

We stayed at the Malabar in June. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in (the family room) was beautiful. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice.

We recently stayed at the malabar guest house for a family weekend away and left feeling refreshed and relaxed even with a toddler. When we arrived we were welcomed by the friendly owners who quickly showed us to our room without problem.
Our room was tastfully decorated and our bathroom was lovely with a shower and bath tub. There was complementry tea, coffee and hot chocolate plus a georgous homemade cake that had to be wrestled away from our toddler. The bed was very comfortable and we were provided with a travel cot too. Every morning we were tempted out of our bed with a hearty breakfast with the full works and our toddler even got his own breakfast and a high chair, I believe that the breakfast was my husbands favorite part of the holiday.
We spent the days walking around the area and along the beaches which had breath taking views. With Malabar being within 5 minutes of local shops and beaches it was easy to get around without the car too. Moira and Brian were very knowledgeable about the area and pointed us to some local resturants and pubs.
Overall i would recommed this guest house to anybody who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and who enjoys walking or just simply enjoys being next to the sea.

Moira and Brian were great hosts; they've designed the rooms really thoughtfully and clearly put a lot of care into the little details. Breakfast was great too and they looked after my vegan needs really well. They recommended a pub which we loved (the Olde Ship Inn - you must try it!) and a restaurant for dinner and helped us with planning our day out the next day. We loved the bathroom, it was really big and spacious, and they even lent us wine glasses and a corkscrew for our pre-dinner glass of wine. Highly recommended.
