Let me first state, that this review is based on a recent stay not in the guest house, but in a "outside cabin ". Also the booking was made via an independent agency, something I have not done before. However before completing the booking I did check that all was acceptable.using the guest houses own website.
On arrival a woman ( possibly the owner) showed us to the "cabin" which was housed in a stable bloc, and clearly this was not a conversion, as the rest of the block was in use as a stable and livery yard.
The woman opened the door showed how to lock it and clearly that was in her opinion enough.
I asked her if I neede to know anything else, she said no. I then enquired about the arrangements for breakfast, only to be told that breakfast was excluded us. I expressed my suprise but clearly that was the end of the matter. On reflection I fail to understand why no attempt was made in the way of an apology even allowing for the fact that it could be argued that the fault lay with myself and the agent. Also a little suprisec that no offer of a breakfast at an additional cost was made.
The room contained as expected a bed, dressing table , small metal table and chairs plus a fridge and microwave. There was no wardrobe. Was this meant to be self catering, clearly not, so therefore not sure how to describe it
The double bed was two singles pushed together. The so called wet room, or as I would prefer bathroom without a shower screen. Once the shower had been used it prohibited any other use ie the lavatory for some time as the floor was soaked.
All I. An say on the plus side is the room was warm. Next day it was clear that there had not been a change of any linen
One point of note was that amongst the various magazines and information book was a breakfast menu to complete more than slightly ironic I felt.
Checking other guest houses in the area we were overcharged for what we got.
Again I must mention that part of the problem lay with myself and the agency. However there is no mention of this what can only be called a casual accomadation on the guest house web site
In conclusion, I will take more care in the future, and do what I have done for many many years and book direct with the establishment. However from my experience Springwood represented very poor value
