I couldn't have chosen a better venue to take my wife for her 40th birthday!
A very friendly and warm welcome on arrival by the hosts, Jill and Jeff - we were immediately made to feel relaxed and at home in what is a beautifully renovated building.
The food and service were great. I had also asked for a birthday cake for my wife and they went the extra mile but bringing it in with Jill playing the Northumberland Pipes.
We would definitely go back and make use of the B&B next time. Cannot recommend highly enough.

That was a great birthday meal – the whole dining room joined in. Glad you enjoyed the pipes too.

For such a beautiful county, Northumberland has disappointingly few places to stay with excellent accomodation, good food and friendly service. St Cuthbert's scores very highly in all areas with very comfortable rooms appointed as well as some 5 star hotels, breakfasts and evening meals to satisfy all tastes and a level of service from Jeff and Jill and their family that puts all guests at ease from the moment they enter St Cuthbert's. Jeff has developed a range of special interest breaks to capitalise on the beauty of Northumberland - check out the excellent website for details of these breaks. We certaily hope to try one of them in 2010. Jeff and Jill opened their excellent Open Door Restaurant because Seahouses is such a disappointment on the culinary front, definitely not Padstow despite the range and quality of fish being landed at the local harbours. Be warned that when we stayed, the Open Door Restaurant was closed on Tuesday nights and there is just nowhere of a similar standard in or around Seahouses. In summary, St Cuthbert's is a short break destination that will fail to disappoint even the most choosy traveller.

The words "B&B in a converted chapel" don't give any idea of the warm welcome, sense of freedom, and beautifully prepared food we enjoyed during our short stay in this bright, roomy and spotless haven of comfort. Chatting to other guests over a sherry in the lounge before dinner, while planning next day's trip with maps borrowed from the bookshelf over the harmonium, was a particular pleasure. Special praise goes to the splendid fittings for disabled travellers in the downstairs Bede Room.
A fine alternative for dinner is the Olde Ship inn by the harbour, an easy walk (or wheelchair push) away.

My wife and I were recommended to travel to Northumberand by many Engish people as an experience to get out of London, be one with nature, and it isn't as crowded as other areas of England. While the town of Seahouses is nice, a little touristy and could use a few nicer restaurants, the reason to come visit should be St. Cuthbert's House. Jeff and Jill Sutheran made us feel welcome from the minute we pulled into the driveway. They were as friendly as we wanted them to be and they still gave you space to be alone. Albeit it was the summertime, but the novelty was that their children all contributed and were present and as friendly as their parents, obviously learning from good roll models. Breakfast was great and their was a variety to choose from and the culinary treat was dinner prepared by son Ollie. It was the best meal we had on our trip. I would make it mandatory to eat dinner if you like good quality, locally sourced food. Their attention to detail with the multitude of whiskeys and local ales added to the authenticity. Jeff was happy to advise but not push us to see some great sights that go overlooked by many visitors. They also do a great job of mixing and mingling with the other guest that you get to chat and enjoy the company of all present. The history of the house and the work they put in is quite a story. It is far enough removed from the tacky strip of Seahouses that you feel like in a different world. Easy day trips to Bamburgh, Berwick, and Holy Island are all possible and easy. Just relaxing up here is reason enough to return, despite the beauty of the county. Even after we departed, I left my passport behind and they called us and mailed it to our next destination. I wish them much success and hope to return soon.

Stayed 10 days, wished for 30! Comfortable, attractive, well equipped room and excellent bathroom. Great food, especially the kedgeree. Might suggest tomato juice with breakfast, but with fresh sweet berries and so much else that is just me! Excellent atmosphere - just like staying in someone’s home rather than a B & B - nothing was too much trouble. Local knowledge was also very helpful, accurate and readily available.

The Open Door restaurant was a real treat too and although the chefs were away for most of our visit, we did eat one meal there. The service was attentive, the food attractive, tasty and well presented and we found the communal aspects of sharing a complementary drink with fellow diners very enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble, even when I asked for a starter as a dessert and swopped the menu around. My only observation was that I thought the price of the bottled local beers rather on the expensive side, especially when compared with shop purchases. However, as I really feel our stay was to hotel standards but for B & B prices, I think that is a minor point. Thank you to everyone at St Cuthbert’s who made our stay so memorable, comfortable and relaxing.

St Cuthbert's House is a 5 Star experience all round. The welcome was warm and friendly, the room was very luxurious and had a beautiful en-suite complete with shower and bath and the bed was really comfortable. The breakfasts were hearty with plenty of choice and the very enthusiastic owners, Jeff and Jill, go the extra mile to make sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing. They also are around to offer loads of information on the area to enable you to get the most out of your stay. This is a fabulous place to stay, a lovely family run concern where it is apparent that the customer comes first. With regard to the location, you definitely don't need to be an athlete to manage the walk into Seahouses so you can leave the car in the B&B Car Park.

Lovely b&b accommodation in converted church. Jeff and Gill make you feel very welcome and the rooms are very tastefully decorated. The Open Door restaurant is an added bonus. However, it is on the very outskirts of Seahouses and quite a walk into the village which can be a plus or minus depending on you. Tip - it can be cheaper to ring direct rather than use the online booking service.
