Decided to go away for one night with husband, his sister and her husband. Liked the look of hotel and it was just what we wanted for quiet night away. We had a drink at the bar then checked in and were shown rooms. Pleased with them, nice bed linen and curtains. Went down for a meal at 7pm where our table was reserved. Really nice meal, nicely presented, nicely cooked. We had starters which we were all happy with, main courses too and although full by this time 3 of us had desserts which were mouth watering.
When to bed and the beds were lovely and comfortable, pillows were bouncy not flat like some places. Breakfast next morning was also tip top. Anything we wanted was immediately served to us.
Very nice owners and staff at hotel, made us feel very welcolm and most certainly will go back thereas soon as we can

Room Tip: Rooms on front were nice but faced on to main road, but never heard traffic

Returning after a weekend away - nodding off at the wheel and needing a bite and a cuppa - stopped here without any great expectations.
Immediately welcomed [genuinely] by the girl in the lounge and served with decent hot coffee while looking at the limited but sufficient specials menu and the local newspapers. Local accents at the other tables a good sign!
I chose roast beef & my wife the veggy haggis with cream & mustard sauce (!!) Meanwhile we were offered a table nearer the woodburning stove. Both meals were quickly served on searingly hot plates [they must have heard of the times I have walked out on hot food- cold plate eateries], and the coffee topped up. The added veg were hot, fresh and just the right amount. Roast as good as expected. Haggis etc - very
At £20 the meal was good value, everywhere was clean, Service was genuinely friendly.
The rack rate for rooms was £100 - but I'm sure better was obtainable.
Added as our future chosen stop on the A68 north.

We recently stayed new this pub and was recommended to us so we visited on Friday and Saturday.

Both evenings were very quiet with not many people in. Pub very small and lounge not much bigger.

Limted choice of food on day menu but unfortunately did not get the chance to see the evening menu.
Both visits were good, really nice home made food and place was spotlessly clean, a credit to the staff.

My only complaint was the time in which it took to get the meals from order, i would hate to see how they handly a busy day as it was empty both times we were there.

This is one of the most beautiful hotels that I have stayed in. I received an incredibly warm welcome by the staff and the two owners who could not have done more for me. My room was superb with a stunning view. The food was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: choose a room at the front with that breathtaking view...

We chose this as a stop off on our way down to a wedding, living ourselves in the middle of no where we thought home from home, a nice quiet night coming up. We were checked in and shown to a very nice and warm room (no 9). The only downside being above the kitchen and the extractor fans, but no problem as the kitchens close and the extractors will be turned off, we thought. So down to an evening meal and a couple of drinks, service from the staff was excellent and so was the food, definitely above normal pub grub and large portions. drinks were fine and all going well. Decided to retire to bed and watch some tv, extractors still going but switched off at 11.30pm, no problem that is fine and reasonable. But, and a big but! as we settled down to sleep something else switched on at about midnight and droned on and on, too late now to complain, so we shared a pair of earplugs (only had one set with us). Sleep was intermitent as we could feel the noise as well, got up tired mentioned the problem but didnt seem interested.
Conclusion great place, great food, good prices, but ask for a quiet room away from the fans or whatever it was.

Room Tip: Anyone way from the extractors/vents, definitely not number 9.

What a lovely place to stay....the welcome we received was second to none and all the staff we met were so friendly and helpful. We booked for one night and enjoyed it so much, stayed for two! The rooms are warm and spacious, the bed comfortable, the bathroom spotless and the room had beautiful views as well. The breakfasts are great , and they can actually make good scrambled eggs, not many hotels manage that ! We only ate there one night and the food was perfect ( again, not many places do a 'blue' steak properly ) and all reasonably priced. Can't wait to go there again as soon as we can .

Stayed for 6 nights. Great welcome and very good service from the owners and their staff throughout. The room was great apart from the shower which very occasionally went hot/cold. They provided a packed lunch each day and an early cooked breakfast for me. I had dinner every night in the restaurant and it was consistently excellent; especially the home made curry night! The restaurant has a real fire in and excellent real ale on tap. The owner even locked my mountain bike in his garage for me overnight! Overall, an excellent inn. I will definitely be returning.
