St Mary’s Inn is set in the heart of a former hospital and has been sympathetically and tastefully renovated. We arrived late on a Sunday afternoon to find the Inn busy and with a very pleasant ambience. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room which was bigger than we had booked for our one night stay. The room and bathroom were beautifully presented, with a large bed and the luxury of three chairs to sit on, and the bathroom had both bath and generous shower, with top quality toiletries and towels etc.
We had reserved a table for dinner and although we were the last to eat ( it was a Sunday with last orders at 6.00pm) our traditional roast meal was very good indeed and very generous portions, we barely managed to share a dessert. We relaxed later in the bar by the fireside. Breakfast was excellent, with a good selection of fresh fruit and delicious porridge, and an extremely generous breakfastt cooked to order. ( even better if the coffee were stronger) . Our server was extremely pleasant.
Our whole experience was positive, with responsive, friendly staff and an emphasis on comfort and top quality, tasteful rooms with everything one would accept in a top class hotel at double the price or more.
There was ample free parking too.
They even arranged an exquisite sunset for us as we walked by the nearby woods!More
