Cleaner than most high-end hotels, professionally run, beautiful location and good food. The B&B owner talks a lot, but in good humour.

Arrived at the arranged time on a cold day to find the heating had only just been turned on so the kettle was welcome. Spacious room and huge bathroom all spotless.

Easy to miss the property in the dark and parking will be tight if all the rooms are taken, as you would have to reverse out onto a fairly busy road.

Breakfast has to be ordered the night before and is part cooked before you arrive in the light and airy conservatory at the rear, so the bacon was a bit dry by the time it was served. Plenty of food and it was hot. Instant coffee not freshly ground.

The worst thing about breakfast is that you can't have a conversation of your own without the owner butting in and giving his opinion on everything under he sun. He also popped out for a chat every time I returned to the B and B so it felt like being spied on.

There are no pubs or restaurants within walking distance although there were some good places to eat within 10 minutes' drive. A good location close to the coast and Newcastle.

We were very impressed with the attention to detail in the room e.g. lots of choice of hot drinks, toiletries provided and a multi-channel tv as well as internet availability. Very comfortable bed and a quiet country area meant we were able to sleep well. Two comfy armchairs too. The breakfast was very well laid out and the owner proved to be a good cook.

I have stayed in many 4* hotels that have not been as comfortable, friendly, clean and well located as this B&B. It isn't cheap and cheerful but it is excellent value - you get what you pay for! The location is excellent to see all things Northumbria - Alnwick Castle for the lady and St.James' Park for the gentleman. We will stay there again and I recommend that you try it as well.

stayed here for four nights and was not dissapointed. the room we syayed in was the downstairs double and it was lovely. the bed was very comfortable and all the bed linen was clean and of good quality. the bathroom had a power shower and there were toiletries and shower gel. the cleanliness was better than anywhere else i have stayed. there was a large tv on the bedroom wall and plenty of tea and coffee, every day we had extras from ricky ... a little pot of sweets and hot chocolate or horlicks. the breakfast was very good and nice and hot. could not fault this b n b and can deffinately recommend. the widdrington arms and the oak both serve good food in large portins, each has to be reached by car but it is only a short journey to each. ricky was most helpful and has some good stories to tell!

Room Tip: all the rooms were good

The Northumberland Cottage was welcoming and warm duirng some very cold and wet weather. The welcome pack in the rooms covered a good range of needs and our well behaved dog was given a welcome too. The rooms were spacious and allowed space for sitting. The ensuites were very adequate, with complimentry toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and clean with appealing furnishings, dressed with cushions. The breakfast was of excellent quality and provided for our dietry needs. The breakfast room had a lovely view of the countryside, as did all the bedrooms.
