This imposing mellow stone building guards the approach to Morpeth. As a former Courthouse and Jail its massive bulk and stern edifice must have struck fear and awe in those unfortunates brought here to face trial. Pushing past the iron portcullis to enter the passageway below we wondered what awaited us.
Our fears were speedily allayed - Carol the proprietress showed us into a most luxurious apartment, the huge bed on a galleried floor, amazing lighting throughout, comfortable sofa, chairs, modern flatscreen TV, superbly lit bathroom and dinky little kitchenette with delicious breakfast ranging from juice and cerals to cold meats, melon and strawberries, rolls, real coffee and all ready in the fridge.
Comforts which assuredly were never experienced by former occupants of the gaol! What a wonderful restoration and such expert design and lighting. Great dressing table and plugs wherever you wanted them.
Only sad we were remanded here for one night only - if we find ourselves in this part of the world again we shall surely hope for custody again in this delightful place.

Room Tip: Each is perfect and with new double glazing no problem from the road

Looking for somewhere different, we certainly found it. Very welcoming and friendly proprietor with all the local know how. The new double glazing gave us peace and quiet even at peak traffic times and when the dinky wash basin is replaced as part of the bathroom refurbishment in Jan 2012 facilities will reach new levels of perfection. The bedroom on the mezzanine floor is cosy yet with plenty of cupboard space and the lounge/diner is comfortable and warm, but not as warm as the friendly Carol, for whom nothing is too much trouble. The apartment is well placed for bus and train and for exploration of this interesting town.

We visited the area for a friends birthday and after much research booked this. We pulled up and couldn't believe our eyes.. it was beautiful!! The Housekeeper popped out for some lunch and left us a lovely note explaining the little details. The apartment was lovely- little home from home (so much better than a hotel- and can't believe it is cheaper than a hotel) The apartment was neat, tidy and very clean!!! After a few hours, Pam knocked on the door and couldn't be nicer- explained if there was anything at all just shout... How nice!! Breakfast is included and looked very nice but we were running late so didn't have it. It was a lovely stay and would love to go back :-) thank you very much

Having come from the area, and moving south to find work, we come home regularly to see parents in Morpeth.
Kids stay at grand parents and we stay here.
We have done for 4-5 years two to three times a year.
Never had a bad experience, and trust me there is no hotel IN MORPETH that comes close.
Idealy situated 50 meters from the best pub in Morpeth (Joiners) and a 5 minute walk from one of the best towns in England, and again trust me when I say that it is always a joy to return here.
Comfortable rather than luxury but what do you expect at these prices.

This was our 3rd stay now at Morpeth Court -and yet again very happy. I have read previous reviews from some people and felt I had to write. Some of these reviews really annoyed me -especially the lady complaining that she had no lemon or black pepper for her salmon!! How awful! (and im sure if she asked Carol -Carol would have got them for her)

Carol is a fantastic host -nothing is too much trouble for her. The apartments are gorgeous -our favourite is number 11 -but we have stayed in all now and they are all lovely. Clean and nicely decorated. Bed very comfy (and huge). Nice toliletries (big bonus for me!) and the food (breakfast) in the fridge is great -selection of cheese, meats -fruit -yogurt -juice and cereal. TV now also has freeview.

Lovely scenery of Carlisle park (across the road) and well worth a walk.

We will be back. I am orginally from Morpeth and know the area well. The court house is swamped with history and it is a privilege to say I have stayed there :)

Cars are also safe as its next door to the police station!

Room Tip: All rooms lovely but room 11 the nicest!

We arrived to find fencing around entry. Finally found where to get in after a couple of phone calls. It seems a large stone had fallen from building and they had to fence off entrance. A sign would have helped. Apartments very functional and breakfast very good. Would not describe as luxury but would recommend for a short stay. Don't be fooled by photo which is taken from park opposite. Apartments on road side.
