“Disappointing.....to say the least”

Brigand Cottage was not exactly as described in the first review shown on Trip Advisor. The writer of that review could do well writing Fairy Stories. The location was perfect. Perched on a low cliff top over- looking ,what must be, one of the most unspoiled stretches of golden beach in the country. Druridge Bay is the perfect getaway, which is why we decided to spend our bank holiday weekend there; just the two of us and our well behaved dog.
The cottage has great potential and with a little TLC and a good DIY enthusiast it could be all it claims and more. However the truth is that the cottage presents a hotch-potch of mismatched, often unsuitable, materials put together by someone with very poor DIY skills and even less, if any idea of what comfort and cleanliness really means. The electrics are a disaster waiting to happen, with multiple extension leads hanging perilously off various plug sockets. Whilst using the grill of the electric cooker I received a shock from the metal surrounding the hob, which wasn’t even switched on.
There was no running hot water as promised because, we were told on arrival on Friday afternoon, the hot water tank began leaking ‘last week’. We were not given any prior warning of this and therefore spent a great deal of time boiling kettles full of water, in order to wash up. Thankfully the shower was electric, though a bath was out of the question.
The whole hose is in dire need of a total refurbishment. The decorating is tired, the carpets are threadbare, the double glazing has condensation between the panes of glass and the drainpipe from the kitchen sink is not connected, spewing sink water all over the paved area below the kitchen window.
The ‘conservatory’ is a tiny area at the back of a shed, which has had faulty double glazed doors and smells strongly of damp…………not a place to relax and enjoy incomparable views across the bay.
My biggest issue, however, was the general grubbiness of the whole house. The pictures included say it all They were taken when we arrived. Thankfully the bedrooms and bed linen were acceptably clean.
Needless to say we left a day early and only stayed that long because the weather was glorious and the location perfect.
The pictures of the cottage at the top of this advertisement were obviously taken some time ago and no longer reflect honestly, the cottage as it is presented now.

“Beautiful location, fantastic cottage, so relaxing”
Reviewed September 9, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights with my parents, and our two dogs. The views from the cottage are amazing, the beach is only metres away and the village is so quiet and friendly. There is everything in the cottage and more you could ever need. Donald is soo welcoming, the area is beautiful, just wished we had stayed longer as there is so much to do and see. Thank you for a wonderful break, can't wait to return xx
