We come to Northumberland every winter and yesterday paid our first visit to the lovely town of Morpeth.
We set out early so decided to find somewhere for breakfast. We count ourselves very lucky to have stumbled on the Old Bakehouse.
There is a large range of tempting dishes on offer. We both chose the full English breakfast. I will list the ingredients: 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, fried bread, black pudding, tomatoes and beans served with 2 rounds of toast, marmalade and a huge pot of tea!! The price? £5.25 each!! The service was very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. The quality of the ingredients was first class - sausage and bacon are very obviously from a very good local butcher.
We will make the trip to Morpeth next year just to eat at the Old Bakehouse again.

Visiting Morpeth with a relative who knew the town, six of us came here for lunch. There are extensive menus, with prices that, to London eyes, look unbelievable.

I had a beautiful Cumberland sausage, with a dish of vegetables. Others had just soup and a roll, which they were all delighted with, and a huge baked potato with cheese.

Service was quick, from a very lovely and friendly waitress (or possibly manager or owner - you never know at some places). And the final bill, for tea for six and nice dishes, was £30.50!

I can't recommend it highly enough.

Visited this little gem of a place for the first time today, as soon as you enter a friendly waitress showed us to a table and pointed out the specials board, special it was...., after much deliberation we opted for a roast pork dinner each which at £9.95 for two was fantastic value, we only waited for around 5 mins when our lunch was served which consisted of 2 thick slices of pork (which melted in your mouth), stuffing, roast potato & yorkshire pud then a separate dish of mashed potato, swede, carrots & cabbage, very rare I clean my plate but today was an exception. The restaurant was constantly busy with people queuing for tables, the menu was varied and the service & value for money was excellent. I would have no problem recommending this restaurant to anyone and will be revisiting very soon.
