“Lovely Lunch”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

We stopped here whilst on the way a little further north for lunch and a drink.
They offer a pleasing selection of meals and lighter meals/sandwiches.
I seem to remember they had some local ales and the usual common pumps.
2 Meals & 2 Drinks cost us about £15 and was thoroughly enjoyed.
Will not hesitate to call back when in the area.

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

My friend and I visited this place for a meal (Aug. 2012) after it was recommended by someone else, but to say we were both very disappointed is an understatement. We had only just sat down when we were told that the table was reserved and were asked if we had booked - we hadn't as we didn't know we were supposed to, so we were given another table but told we had to vacate it by 7.30pm - it was then 6.30pm. I ordered the home made steak pie and got a very small piece which looked like it was the last bit and had been in the oven all day - the meat was black, dry and overcooked and the crust was so hard it needed a chainsaw to cut through it. My friend's scampi was also hard; the vegetables, especially the cauliflower, were bland, watery and tasteless and the 'chips' were anaemic and full of small hard pieces - obviously cheap frozen oven chips of the type dished up in schools. Neither meal was good value for money - we have had better and cheaper meals elsewhere.

With hindsight we should really have complained at the time and asked for a refund, but after driving for four hours then putting up two large tents on a camp site we just needed something to eat and this was the nearest place to get it. Needless to say, although we would have no hesitation in visiting the area again we most certainly will NOT be going back to this place for a meal!

“Welcome Back. Welcomed Back”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

I said we would return and we did. We were not disappointed either. Special tonight was pork chops on a bed of black pudding with a fantastic apple sauce. Three of us had a fantastic meal and the Dutchman Ale was fantastic. Well don Widdy inn. You success she's from the number of people dinning on a Thursday Night. Glad we booked We will return.

“Great Pub !!!”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

We 12 golfers went very hungrily on thursday night --- had a great pint or a gin and tonic before being seated and choosing from the extensive menu== food was soon served and was most acceptable hot and in great quantity so what is everyone complaining about-- the prices are most reasonable-- especially given the size of the portions == think twice --do you really need the LARGE salad??? All in all a great end to our awayday from scotland thank you -- and a mention about the barmaids they really know how to multitask ==quickest i,ve ever seen and smiling too!!!
