“A happy customer”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Strangely enough only our second visit to the Manzil . But having gone there with friends a couple of weeks ago and having been quite impressed we went back at the weekend .
The service was fast but friendly. The atmosphere was comfortable and warm and obviously filled with Saturday night regulars . The popadoms were crisp and wafer thin and although the pickles were tasty they made up for in bulk what there should have been in variety . The main courses were however delightful . A Ceylon Chicken Tikka with Plain Pilau was one of the best I have ever tasted and the Plain Chicken Tikka was accompanied by the biggest and tastiest of salads we had seen in an Indian Restaurant in many a long year . The Kingfisher Beer was cold and a perfect accompaniment to a hottish curry . Certainly the Manzil is worthy of repeat patronage if they keep this standard up . Give it a go if you haven't done so already. as I said though Popadoms are the first point of 'foody' contact for the customer and this could be done better although the rest was excellent , hence 4 star not 5star . Hope it's 5 star next time !!

“Absolutely gorgeous!”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

The staff are very friendly and the service is SO FAST! We were so impressed with their efficiency!
We were there as a party of 10 for my husband's birthday and they even gave him a free drink to celebrate which was very nice!
I ordered the aloo chatt for starter, which tasted fresh and vibrant. Most of the party ordered onion bhajis, in a good sized portion with fresh salad. It looked perfectly cooked!
The mains came very quickly after the starter, which was a nice surprise. I ordered the prawn saag, a spinach based curry which was delicious. It was piping hot-always important when ordering seafood-as was the channa pilau I ordered.
Everyone else, to my knowledge, thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

The prices are reasonable and there are plenty of veggie options, which is great. I would highly recommend their set menu, as it's very cheap!

Don't miss out on coming here, it's great.

“Alright”

It used to be really good years ago but it must have changed hands at some stage because it's pretty average Indian fare these days, nothing much to tell you about really.

“Yet another visit!”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Manzil 27 2 13
Another lunchtime visit! Always a treat. Adjacent to the Clock Tower. Never been disappointed, here. A smart, clean professional outfit with food to match. Good views towards the old market (market day, Wednesday) & Bridge Street. Only 5 other covers over the time I was there. Shame it wasn’t busier, though. Evenings are, I’m told. Not many ‘Indians’ open at lunchtime now, so visit then and keep this place open!
As a matter of interest. ‘Indians’ open at lunchtimes:- 2 at Morpeth, 2 at Blyth, 1 at Cramlington.
None at Ashington, Bedlington, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, North Shields, Wallsend. (in the town centres, though there may be further away) All these places have at least one open in an evening.
