Went here this morning for a breakfast. When we went in we were greeted warmly and it was explained to us that that it was under new management and they were finding their feet as it had been a very quick changeover that week. We had 3 mega breakfasts which were absolutely fine with coffee and teas. No problems whatsoever and the young lad serving the food was very pleasant and friendly. A friendly goodbye and enjoy your day from the manageress when we left as well. A great local spot to visit I am sure that they will soon have the place the way they want it to be.

I was so looking forward to going here as I heard that Tomlinson's from Rothbury had taken over and that serves great food. Arriving we were told that there were a little disorganised as they had just taken over on Tuesday and they didn't expect as many people - not sure why not as it's always busy on a Friday. Tables piled high with dirty dishes but the girl did come and clean it after a while. No menu on the table, in fact they were in short supply all round, it was a case of hunt it down. We ordered and waited ages. 2 teas came but we had ordered 3, the girl went and got another one. Bacon sandwich which was ordered in a brown bun came in a white bun., a long time after the teas. We waited another 5 minutes for a slice of cake and a scone and by that time we had finished the tea! More hot water was asked for and given no bother. The food was fine apart from the scone which felt like it had been frozen first and was hard on the outside. When we went to pay the girl had a pile of orders by the till and despite searching for several minutes couldn't find our table so we told her what we had ordered. Not impressed at all, maybe they should have spent some time training in Rothbury first as they really need to get their act together, there were plenty of staff too.

As a returning customer (albeit it 16 months ago) what a change. The place looked run down, badly stocked, no burgers (it's a farm shop), no hot meat sandwiches (half the menu) - the coronation chicken sandwich was like vindaloo in a bun and the service was painfully slow I mean really slow. If my Mum was not treating me I would have walked out.

It looked good if you fancied a fry up! However, for somewhere in the middle of no-where it needs to have a better menu with more welcoming staff and the full monty to call itself a farm shop experience to make the effort. I will never return. Clearly changed hands and oh my word what a disappointing shame.

We visited for lunch, and to do some shopping. Had a lovely pie and veg and desert of course, and free refill of coffee. Really great food, served on hot plates, and friendly, helpful staff. In fact the best in the area. So good that we are returning for Sunday lunch. Well done.

We've been coming here for many years mainly to buy our meat but also to stop and have a coffee. When we first started the whole place was absolutely buzzing both in the shop and the cafe. However over the last couple of years things have started to decline - not the standard of the butchery department but certainly the rest of the shop and the cafe. Sadly we now see that the premises is advertised to let. There is a notice saying that business has declined due to the popularity of Lidl and Aldi - sorry but I don't agree that this is the real reason, other farm shops are busier than ever but they're also better organised. A great shame for what used to be a great place, so sorry for the lovely long serving staff, especially Tom the butcher who has delivered a service second to none. We can only hope that someone else sees the potential and builds it back up again.
