we live less than 100 yards from this pub after moving here 2 months ago, i must say this is the most friendly and welcoming place that you could hope to visit, the landlord and landlady Gill and Tony are supurb people who employ and excellent staff. Worth mentioning is the culinary skill of experienced cheff Jo does a job good enough for you to keep wanting to come back again and again... this alongside a very reasonably priced menu and quaint surrondings makes for an altogether pleasing dining/drinking experience.

The pub is frequented by farmer/shooters/hunters/bee keepeers/womans institutes and many others so you will never have a (boring) conversation.

in my opinion the best beer in this pub is the larger and you do get an excellent pint of carling, however i have also heard the john smiths is good as well as real ales they have on.

The bar also has free wi fii

this is a pub you wouldn't be afraid to take your family too.

The riverside location is complimented by the smiles of the landlord/landlady staff and locals and truly is a credit to the dying british pub.

“Decent food served on cold plates.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2011

We visited the Northumberland arms whilst on Holiday in Swarland a family of 6. First impressions were that it was short of staff and a little disorganised. We were seated at our table straight away. The place looked clean and tidy. We were served by a lady that seemed to be the owner. She informed us that the chef was off and she would be cooking. I was slightly worried with the colour of her nails as I have worked in catering and I was told to always keep mine short and clean. However the food was served to us quite quickly and was absolutely fine, we cleared our plates and enjoyed the home cooked chips! My only critisism would be the cold plates, otherwise the small amount of staff did a good Job!

“Excellent food, slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2011

I have eaten at the Northumberland Arms many times this year and the new owners have brought with them excellent quality food. Bar meals are two for £14 from the specials board, sandwiches are lovely, but the star are the Sunday lunches. two courses for £9.95 or three courses for £11.50 when i last visited is excellent value for money.

Service for lunches was fine, quick, freshly cooked food delivered to the bar. Sunday lunch was a different matter, very slow service even though there were only three tables full at the time. Such a shame as the food is actually well worth the wait!! A tweak to the service is all it would take for this to be top notch, i would still recommend visiting for the food and friendly staff.
