“Excellent food - obnoxious duty manager!”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We made a reservation by email for this place (using our taste card). When we arrived, it had been allocated to the following day. The duty manager Jamie was extremely rude to us and was dismissive - even saying to one of our party a curt "if you let me finish" when we said that we wern;t happy that we could not be given a table - this guy should be sent to the USA for customer service training - not a good front line face for this hotel!
However, the day was saved by the intervention of the banqueting and conference manager, Gemma. She was courteous and excellent. She provided us with drinks and menus and we dined in the Boyson - albeit over 90 minutes after we had booked for. The service from Adele was excellent and the food was brilliant too.

“Not to the expected standard”
Reviewed June 10, 2012

This place really needs to get there heads in gear if they aren't to loose more customers.

Confusion reigned! No-one was there to greet us even though we had pre-booked, staff were not attentive enough and the following morning at breakfast, staff were chatting amongst themselves instead of focusing on their guests. we weren't directed to a table and the one we chose had not been cleaned from the previous occupants either as there were either salt or sugar grains still on the table.

The food was exemplory and we couldn't fault it, but the poor customer service has marred the whole thing.

Afternoon tea earlier that day wasn't much better. 3 cups had to be sent back as they weren't clean, the pots with the tea/coffee in had marks where they hadn't been dried properly, but again the food was really, really good.

What was supposed to have been a wonderful anniversary turned into an absolute nightmare.

Our advice? Don't go unless you want to be very disappointed!

“Pure excellence and so tasty!”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

We go to the Boyson at least once a month and for 3 fabulous courses it costs around £25. We have a taste card so get the food half price but would still pay full price as the chef is a pure genius. I am quite a picky eater so was put off at first by the posh menu but it is the best place I have ever eaten. The food is by far the tastiest and well presented I have ever had and more people need to no about how excellent it is here as most of the time we go the restaurant is less than half full and it's such a shame. Although the last time we went it was packed so maybe the word is getting around. Everyone has to go to try out the delicious, tasty, yummy, scrumptious food

Food lovely & presentation very nice. The only downside was the flimsy paper menu which has been shortened since my last visit
