After some years absence (when we previously had an outstanding visit and gave it top rating for comfort and dining) this was an overnight stay whilst travelling to Scotland.
Well received and had a Feature Double room which was spacious and well appointed with uninterrupted views over the gardens, golf course and countryside. Had very nice walk through the wooded grounds and beside the golf course to relax.
We were surprised to find the dining room would only serve a seven course fixed meal at a minimum price of £40 per head plus wines. This was excessive to our tastes and not what we wanted so moved our booking to the Pub - This proved to be limited in choice and only to very basic standard (chips were oversized!). Overall that part of the experience was not to 5 star standard and proved the hotel offered only the extremes of dining which we are sure is not to most hotel guests expectations or needs.
The breakfast experience, however, was excellent and to the standard we expected.
Overall the hotel is impressive in the main reception rooms and comfortable. It is lacking maintenance and must be due renovation otherwise it will lose it's previous status. Management needs to look carefully to the format of dining and the apparent deterioration of the structure.More
