“Superb facilities in a peaceful location”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Our week in Northumberland was made very special by Beacon Hill Farm. The location is lovely and quiet - I instantly forgot about work which is a good sign! The facilities in the house (we stayed in Kestrel) and the farm were absolutely first class. I think the owner has thought of everything having run the business successfully for many years. The rooms were all very spacious and had nice touches as well as practical items - the kitchen in particular had every gadget you could possibly hope for. The tourist information provided is also very useful and thoroughly researched. Overall we had a wonderful holiday. We would not hesitate to stay again and would recommend Beacon Hill Farm to anyone.

We made our second trip to Beacon Hill Farm in August 2012, having previously been last year to the exact same cottage (Merlin Cottage). The location is beautiful , the cottages are very well appointed and the facilities are great. We have 3 little boys 7, 5 & 2 and they had a wonderful time. Swimming every day in the indoor pool, playing on the trampolines, playing in the woods and genreally being able to do all the things we probably did as kids. The cottage feels like a home away from home with everything in it that you could possibly need. A Tesco delivery timed for just after you arrive makes life easy and a trip to Bin 21 in Morpeth for those essential alchohic delights (ask about the Geordie G&T) has you setup for the week. A highlight for our boys was cooking sausage, bacon and eggs on an open fire in the woods. Druridge Bay is a lovely beach as is Embleton Bay. I must mention the lovely warm welcome you get at the The Grey Inn in Embleton where we stopped for a spot of lunch. We had a lovely time once again at Beacon Hill and we look forward to going again next year.

Wonderful location and the highest quality cottages and spa. We loved exploring the local area including the estate with it's lake and woodland and we all enjoyed the swimming pool & spa facilities. It is in an ideal location for visiting other areas of Northumberland - Cragside was a real highlight as well as the beautiful beaches.

We found this little gem two years ago through a random internet search and have just returned from our third holiday there. The fact that so many people choose to return year after year speaks volumes for Beacon Hill Farm. It quite simply has everything you could want from a holiday with young children. Ours are 12, 5 and 3 and there is never a bored moment. That said it is a spacious area (hundreds of acres in fact at your disposal!) and does not feel overrun with children even at the peak of the summer season. The facilities are amazing - particularly for us the indoor pool, games room and play area mean that it really doesn't matter if it rains. If all else fails or just to let the growns ups have a lie in there is SKY TV, WiFi and a DVD player! We haven't always had the best weather when we have been but there is still plenty to do both on and off site. This year we went to Lindisfarne (mussel gathering on the shore), Cragside (the labyrinth is great and if you go round the house there is a list of objects for children to find to keep them amused
), Craster (the rocky shore at Craster is great for little explorers who can't make it all the way to Dunstanburgh Castle), Morpeth (nice shops) and the beautiful white sand beach at Bamburgh (children even made it into the sea!), leaving plenty of time to enjoy the pool and facilities back at the Cottages. I even made use of the good gym during my trip so came back feeling virtuous.
The views from Beacon Hill are gorgeous - as is the surrounding countryside. Even though we live in a very rural part of Hertfordshire ourselves we are always amazed by how beautiful Northumberland is. The cottages are exceptionally well kitted out. Alun, over the years, has literally thought of, and added, everything. The tea and coffee, milk, wine and cake are very welcome touches on arrival. That you can arrange a Tescos delivery to meet you there is an added bonus although things like loo and kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, washing up liquid and soap are there already which is really helpful. We stayed in South Granary the first time which was delightful and wonderfully cosy in November. The last two visits have been to Beacon Hill Cottage which is a bit more spacious and has a conservatory type room as a second living room, which is great with children and for the views. It also has a private gated garden to keep toddlers secure. Friends of ours stayed in Larch which is surprisingly roomy for a two bedroom cottage. Alun himself is obviously passionate about the area which is infectious and he is often (unobtrusively) on hand with little nuggets of information about the area and suggestions about how to get the most out of your stay (down to, for example, just suggesting a more picturesque route to get from A to B). My only reservation about writing this review is that encouraging others to come may make it harder for us to secure a summer slot next year...but, hey ho, this little gem is one to share.

What a marvellous find Beacon Hill Farm Is, from the minute you arrive you feel welcome and relaxed. The location and views are amazing, we enjoyed the most wonderful sunsets from Elm Cottage. The cottage was extremely clean, very well maintained and well equipped. We were amazed how spacious it felt. The facilities are brilliant for all ages, our children, aged 4 and 6, made full use of both adventure play areas, the swimming pool and the tennis court. We all enjoyed the woods and had a sausage sizzle with our lovely 'holiday' neighbours in Oak. The children loved toasting marshmallows and being allowed the freedom to roam and the adults enjoyed relaxing with wine and beers around the campfire, knowing the kids were both safe and happy. Also, the gym is extremely well equipped and great for removing the guilt from all the holiday treats. The location is perfect for brilliant family days out nearby. We will be recommending Beacon Hill to all our friends and definitely plan to return next year.

Just returned from our third visit to Beacon Hill, this time staying in Beech Cottage. This year we particularly enjoyed Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Heatherslaw Corn Mill and the Baltic Gallery in Newcastle by the Millenium Bridge. We still had plenty of time to make full use of the great gym, lovely pool (nearly every day!), sauna, steam room, tennis etc. Spa facial and massage were excellent, Kate Howard's home cooked cottage pie a treat, the welcome bottle of wine and lemon drizzle cake hugely appreciated. We even got a sun tan!!! On our last day we visited the High Trewitley owls - fabulous! Now we're home and already planning our next holiday at Beacon Hill.....we can't wait!

A wonderful place to stay. We have returned after a break of several years and found it better than ever. As well as enjoying the countryside it's lovely to stay around and use the spa and pool which you often have to yourself. The beauticians are also excellent.
