I returned to this hotel, having been to it many times as a child over 20 years ago. It has had a total makeover a couple of years ago which means it appears slightly sterile and polished which may not be to everybodys taste, though the food was FANTASTIC. I only tend to review on tripadvisor when I feel strongly about a place - and this is one of thosr times. The service was professional and fast, and the real ale was pretty good too. Recommended for families and foodies alike.

Visited Lindisfarne last week for the day, my wife and I intended to eat on one of the pubs on the island. At around 4pm Inwalked onto the manor house hotel bar ( dressed in a t- shirt, walking trousers and walking sandals- to make the most of the glorious weather ). On entering the public bar I was " looked up and down " by the bar man who I asked of they had a table free for two in their dining room that evening....I was immediately told no they were full. . A short time later, approx 30 mins my wife decided to try this establishment again...she went in alone andcwasvtold yes they had a table free....Now call me cynical...but she was smartly dressed....and I may have looked untidy but not scruffy....buts they now had a table free ????!!! I have never experienced this before....We didnt dine at the manor but decided to go and have a fantastic meal in Waren Ford instead....

Thank you for leaving another review of your recent experience at the Manor House, the other being removed by trip advisor and now you have reposted it.

Considering how bad you claim your experience was at lunch, rating us 1 out of 5 and then on reposting 3 out of 5, we are actually rather surprised that you claim to have come back that same day to try and book a table for dinner.

As for this review we are so sorry that you believe you were told there were no tables available due to how you were dressed. Although let us assure you that this would not have been the case, being based on Holy Island, where most people come to explore the beautiful surroundings, a lot of our guests dress casually and this has never been an issue.

During the summer we are often fully booked and so unfortunately we are unable to accommodate everyone all the time which is probably why we were unable to offer you a table on this occasion.

Furthermore as your review suggests that you specifically asked to eat in the dining room, which generally gets booked up first, when your wife came in we may have said we could seat you in the bar area or we may have had a cancellation. So once again we just want to reassure you that your clothing had nothing to do with it and we are sorry that the 'look' the barman gave you led you to believe this.

Thank you

We stopped for a lunchtime sandwich when visiting Holy Island. The garden has wonderful views and our young children enjoyed running around in the enclosed space. The sandwiches lacked any imagination but they were OK.

We were staying overnight on Holy Island and had been advised to book ahead for an evening meal to ensure that we had somewhere to eat when the tide came in and the mainland wasn't accessible - very good advice! We chose the Manor House and did not regret it. The menu was impressive and made choice difficult! The prices were consistent with good food, but certainly not expensive. Crayfish cocktail for a starter was almost a meal in itself, and I had Lamb Henry, a cut from the shoulder of lamb as a special. It was just beautiful - so tasty and tender with a lovely redcurrant sauce. My husband's starter of mussels was very tasty in a piquant sauce, and he chose confit of duck - also delicious. We had a very charming young lady from Lithuania waiting on us. All in all, no complaints - just compliments!

My wife, son and I spent a really nice day on the Island and exploring the sites and places of interest. We walked into the hotel the staff and residents were all watching the tennis match. We ordered a drink and was asked who we were supporting . It was then we were made to feel very unwelcome . The venom and anti Scottish sentiment was truly appalling . Won't recommend this hotel to Anyone.

Thank you for leaving a review of your visit to the Island Bar at the Manor House Hotel, although in this instance we are truly shocked by your allegations.

First we believe it is very important to note that we are not an anti-Scottish establishment, being so close to the border we have many Scottish visitors, several of whom return time and time again, additionally our own head chef is a proud Scotsman! We attract a diverse group of visitors to the hotel and also have a diverse workforce and we can honestly say that we have never been accused of racism or discrimination towards anyone.

The member of staff you were engaged in conversation with is saddened that you have chosen to place a review on trip advisor rather than expressing to her at the time that her comment's surrounding not being a fan of Andy Murray were perceived by you as ‘Venom and anti-Scottish sentiment’, especially as his nationality was not mentioned by her. In fact the staff member said that she considered herself British and had never understood any animosity between the English and Scottish.

Even more surprising is that considering how appalled you were, you chose to stay for sometime and continue to talk, in what she thought of as friendly banter, not only did she also switch on our second TV to enable you more room to watch the tennis but your son also had a nice nap on one of our cosy sofas.

Lets be honest, the majority of people present were 100% behind Murray, in fact most of our customers that day were walk in visitors like yourself, and in no way was there any kind of anti- Scottish rally going on as your review suggests!

You clearly, and rightly so, feel strongly about racism and discrimination which makes one of your comments on the day even more puzzling, specifically that you support Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the rugby as you consider these to be Celtic nations but would not support the English.
