“Delicious meal in a traditional setting”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

My husband and I had dinner here last week whilst staying in a lovely B&B close by! The pub is delightful with a wonderful atmosphere but what was truly outstanding was the meal! If you're in the area, it's a must!! I had the best pork belly of my life and I'm a foodie!! My husband had delicious Scallops on risotto!

“Disappointing.”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Called in for Sunday lunch as in the past we have always had great food here, but that was a good few years ago.
The pub itself, and staff are very welcoming but I am afraid the food let it down.

The 2 children's meals we had were cooked to death, the burger was dry and tasteless and the home made fish fingers were so overcooked that the fish inside was white rubber!

I ordered the slow cooked lamb, which was anything but slow cooked. I got the impression that a lamb steak had been quickly cooked then sliced up. But the biggest sin were the roast potatoes, clearly cold and reheated, so that they come out a dull brown colour, not a crisp golden delight!

For the money, I would expect a better standard. It was quite a shame as we were very much looking forward to it.

A fabulous pub with super customer service and atmosphere. We've been here many times and have never been disappointed. George is very welcoming and the staff brilliant.

“Not quite as good”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

Eaten here several times but it seems to have lost a little bit of appeal. Food is good but expensive compared to other local pubs. Beer was also disappointing this time. maybe a blip but a bit disappointed this time around....

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

Great food, great service, great beers (try the blond), great atmosphere and prices that are very reasonable.
Well worth a trip off the beaten path to the small village of egingham with easy access from alnwick.
