“Too early for the battle!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Not a lot to see but excellent descriptive boards located round the well-marked trail and free pamphlets in boxes at the gates. Lovely views from the high points.

Sorry we had to go back home before all the festivities.

“All the Scots 'Aragon'”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

A worth while visit to such a historic site and you can see how much has been spent to create the atmosphere of this historical battle which was the last battle between these two nations on English soil. In September of this year it is a significant anniversary of this famous battle. The only negative about the site was the limited amount of information boards which would help create the actual battle in more detail and make the visit more educational. Suggestion would be to charge a standard admission fee (as per Culloden do) to develop the site and information. Overall a very enjoyable visit.

“Flodden 500 - Get there!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Excellent work by "Ecomuseum" and "Flodden 500" to update the battlefield trail, with clear information boards at key points, starting from the memorial near Branxton Church. Visit the church first! Coldstream Museum (free) is also worth a visit and has a Flodden exhibition this summer (and lots of Coldstream Guards stuff of course). Etal Castle and village (the thatched Black Bull pub is classic) plus Norham Castle (free) are very good if you can extend your stay and have own transport.

“A moving visit”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

A diversion to Flodden on my way back to Yorkshire was not planned - but I'm very glad I made it. Coming from York where so many conflicts have occurred, I suppose I should have been hardened to this memorial. But its positioning and explanation really emphasise what a bloody and terrible battle this was and how it is absolutely right to commemorate it. Some may feel that the tribute is too low key but, in this instance, it is significantly better than other battlefield sites such as Towton, Adwalton or Culloden.

“Wonderful and sad historical site”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Historic location of a battle between England and Scotland. Now covered in fields of wheat. Such a lovely site and memorial to all who gave their lives for what they believed in.
