“Lovely B&B with excellent outlook”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We think this is one of the nicest B&B's you could find - the family that run this B&B are all extremely friendly, the breakfasts are fantastic, the room was wonderfully comfortable with everything you could need and we stayed in the Swan room which has a lovely view of the swans etc on the River, great location for walking into town and the walls - having read the fantastic reviews for this property I can say they reflect this excellent stay.

We have stayed 3 times at The Walls and it really does feel more and more like staying with good friends rather than staying in a B&B. Eric & Suzanne are so friendly, welcoming and helpful, with great knowledge about the local area (and if there's something they don't know the answer to, Eric will soon find it!). On our third visit we took family/friends and they too were welcomed like old friends.

We have tried both The Tweed and The Swan rooms and love them both, with their fabulous views over the river Tweed and the Berwick bridges. The Swan is a little larger, with a slightly bigger bed, but we would happily recommend either room.

Breakfasts here are superb, with the usual choices of full cooked breakfast, fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, as well as delicious homemade fishcakes, potato cakes, local breads and honey, etc. Nothing is too much trouble and service is always with a smile and friendly conversation.

The Walls will always be our first choice when staying in Berwick.

Room Tip: The Tweed and The Swan are on the first floor, overlooking the river. The Walls is on the ground flo...

We have just stayed at the walls for 3 nights, what a beautiful B&B, the location is one of the best in Berwick, we stayed in the Tweed room which was fantastic, furnished beautifully and a view to die for, could not fault it. The hosts are one of the most genuine people we have ever met, went out of there way to make are stay wonderful, the breakfast is the best ive ever had at any B&B, all fresh and from local farms and butchers, anyone who stays here will not be dissapointment, wish all B&B where like this, we will definitely be going back, Thank you once again to you both.

We stayed here for four nights during the third week in May 2013. Our hosts were very welcoming and took great care over every aspect of their service. They even collected us from the station and delivered us back at the end of our stay. The house is beautiful, the rooms immaculate, and views overlook the River Tweed. Breakfast was superb with a variety of delicious choices with a local flavour.

This was our first visit and we were treated like regular guest. Equal to 5 star hotel and we have been to a few. For the owners Nothing was a problem they wanted this to be your best holiday. The room views are beautiful day or night and the location for other hot spots was ideal. Family 4 we went during the Easter break for several days and we are still talking about it. A lovely couple who ensure that their guest have a wonderful time.

A warm, friendly and helpful welcome proved to be the beginning of a wonderful 4 night stay. The Tweed room was lovely, the breakfast tasty and the wildlife for which we visited did not let us down. Walks along the Tweed, on Holy Island and to St. Abbs provided over 70 species of birds. Seal and weasel both put in an appearance but the highlight of our visit was an hour spent on the old bridge watching 2 otters feeding and playing in the river below us. Better than Springwatch!

As an extended family, we stayed in the Tweed and Swan rooms for 3 nights in late March. I can confirm that the Walls is a wonderful place to stay in all weathers! It was very cold, snowing on and off, with a bitter wind blowing day and night the week we were there but the house's position, on the town walls overlooking the river, was actually very sheltered compared with the seaward side of the town. As others have said the rooms are really delightful, spacious and warm. Everything you could want and more is provided and the views are ever changing and fascinating. We saw lots of birds, seals and, one memorable morning, an otter frolicking around in front of the house.
Eric and Suzanne only improve upon the house's qualities with their generous and friendly (but never intrusive) hospitality. They gave us a great welcome and were helpful throughout our stay. The breakfasts they prepared to order were delicious. Numerous generous and thoughtful touches throughout the house made us feel welcome and perfectly comfortable. Suzanne's dining and pub suggestions were spot-on.
If you are considering Berwick as a place to stay to explore the borders, I would fully endorse the town. The walls, the layout of the town and some of the older buildings make it a great place to spend time in, and we were well situated for day trips to the surrounding countryside and small towns. With the cold weather it was great having good restaurants at our doorstep.
Staying at the Walls really made our stay in the border country. We'd love to go back when the sun is shining, but are living proof that a warm welcome trumps whatever weather might come your way.
