“Hotel hideaway just off the A1”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Spent 1 night here at the weekend but will be back for more. Friendly staff, nice surroundings, lovely room, excellent food and drink, cosy bar - what more could you want! We had room 9 which overlooked the garden - nice size with 2 armchairs so you did not have to sit on the bed all the time, very clean. Very quiet although the A1 was only 1 minute away. Free tea/coffee and shortbread/mini brownies offered on arrival in the large lounge area - bottles of water in the room with the usual tea/coffee facilities. Evening meal was very nice - not a wide menu but enough choice and extremely well cooked and presented. Service was a little slow but they were busy. My only criticism was that the dining room was chilly - no heating on. Breakfast also good the next day.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view available - ask when you make a booking. If on the DBB deal, make your dinner...

We stayed one night on our way up to Scotland. The hotel is lovely and the staff/owners were friendly and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast and have to say the food was superb! The chef and kitchen staff deserve high praise! The hotel itself is what my husband called 'shabby chic' and in keeping with the age of the property. We would not hesitate in recommending or using this hotel again.

We stayed here for 1 night with our toddler, the staff couldn't have been any nicer and were so friendly towards our little boy. Breakfast was really nice with locally sourced sausages etc. Its been nearly 4 years since our last visit but didn't disappoint (though last time was without toddler). Would recommend this place to stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights between Christmas and New Year . The hotel is easily accessible being just off the A1 and is set in lovely grounds . The room we were given was spacious , well furnished in a traditional manner and the beds were comfortable . Dinner and breakfast were both excellent and the bar is well stocked and a relaxing place to be . Whilst there is a real country house feel to the establishment it is in no way stuffy and really there is nothing one can fault . Most recommended

Comfortable;friendly efficient staff;dogs welcome everywhere except dining room. Our dog very much enjoyed the open fire in the bar. Good food, EXCEPTIONAL SEAFOOD PLATTER is a must try!
Bar and communal areas are wonderful 'country house' large rooms. Bedrooms in both the original house and the later extension are also well sized, with easy chairs, coffee table etc.

My wife and I have just returned from a two day break at the hotel and we could not have asked for more
All of the staff managers, receptionists, waitresses, and maintenance personnel could not have been more friendly and helpful.
There was a good choice on the dinner menu and the meals were well cooked and presented. The shared fish platter is highly recommended.
Our room was large and very warm, comfortable and clean as were all other areas of the hotel
The hotel location was ideal for our needs being virtually on the coastal path where there are lovely to Berwick and Eyemouth
We will obviously be returning

From the first contact with the hotel on booking to the lovely welcome on arrival to the warm spacious comfortable room to the friendly competent staff to the delicious food to the open fire in the lounge area, we were delighted at every turn. The best hotel we have stayed in for a very very long time. Perfect.
