“Great Time”
Reviewed January 22, 2013 via mobile

Stayed over the new year, for which was a second visit. Enjoyed my stay the last time and even more so the second. The place has improved since the last time, particularly the restaurant. We had a five course meal that was fantastic although there was almost to much for me to eat! Breakfast was good as well. The owners and staff were all incredibly friendly and made it feel like a home from home. Hope to return again!

My group of 4 booked a New Year treat and was informed that there would be canapes & mulled wine to begin, followed by a five course banquet. We were also informed when booking the package, that the entertainment would consist of a piper, a disco and fireworks; unfortunately the only "entertainment" provided was a quiz! which began at 11:45 & the answers were given at the strike of 12, leaving us to rush outside to see some fireworks.
The canapes consisted of smoked salmon, pate and/or cheese on a chewy, cold piece of toast; the banquet looked good on paper but the chef unfortuantely didn't come up with the goods, except for the fish which was delicious.
David and Robert the owners did provide a warm welcome and became gradually more hilarious as the night wore on. The hotel itself is clean and cozy and the beds comfy but no tea/coffee or cups in the room. Breakfast was also a disapointment, consisting of haggis, bacon, sausage and scrambled egg which was the worsed breakfast we've ever experienced.
If you want a good laugh and imagine you're an extra in "Faulty Towers", this is the place to stay.

After a last minute letdown for christmas lunch by an un-named pub in paxton, my wife and i were re-directed to marshall meadows. I wasnt too concerned as we were faced with cheese and onion crisps and a mars bar for crimbo dinner, but i was pleasantly surprised!! On arrival we were greeted with a smile and handshake from a well dressed gentleman who took us to the bar complete with log fire) to peruse the menu and have a drink. The lunch was VERY good!! First ever christmas lunch ive had with a sea view!! We were left to take our time and enjoy the occasion, with constant unobtrusive help from the staff. I would highly recommend to anyone for lunch, and if lunch was anything to go by, im sure the accommodation is tip top too!!! Mr and Mrs P.

Room Tip: Dining room, fireside bar. both good rooms!

Held our Wedding reception at Marshall Meadows - and it was fantastic. Couldn't fault a thing every thing went perfectly from the service to the food to the way they decorated the function room for the reception every detail was done perfectly it was absolutely fantastic and we both had a great day! The room we stayed in was really nice everything was perfect, breakfast in the morning was great 5 out of 5 for the food. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of getting married. All round a great hotel with great staff.

Arrived at hotel Friday night, the reception was closed. Our friend was holding his wedding at the hotel, we arrived in our work clothes but had to go looking for some one to check us in. The groom didn't know we were staying there, so momentarily thought we were taking the p.

An "emergancy" number to phone on reception but the call wasn't answered. Finally found the owner, who kindly allocated us a "double" room instead of the twin. He carried my bag upto the room and I was very greatful.
Room 8 was a disapointment immediatly, the decor and furniture were from the 1970's. The bottles of shower gel was empty, the shower curtain was stained, the air vent was hanging with dust. The tiles needed grouting. The bed spread had pulled threads. The bedroom was far too hot.

My partner went into the main bar, where there were other guests drinking and was abruptly and bad temperedly refused a drink. when he explained we were booked into the hotel the bar man said it didn't matter the bar was closed. If he had just explained that at the beginning of the convo, it would have been excepted and a bad situation could have been avoided. The bar man turned out to be one of the owners. He could also have just served the pint!

Arrived down to breakfast, to find that at 9.30 there were no tables, staff said there was a table for us then when we went to get it, there wasn't one. Made us feel stupid in front of other wedding guests. Toast was ordered at begining and just didn't arrive. Service was slack, had to ask for sugar, never offered coffee/tea refills. Food was good and a very good variety.
We were going to complain about the barman's attitude, but the breakfast staff confirmed he was the owner, and I flippently commented "aww well no point complaining but there is always Trip advisor!"

We were checking out, and we were told that management wanted a word. The manager that had checked us in, immediatly started stating that the consequesnses of leaving a bad review was detremental to job security and reputation. At which point I pointed out that, so was treating guests poorly and talking to them VERY badly. A confrontation when leaving an expensive hotel that did not live up to it £80.00 per night price tag, is not recommended. We were left feeling abused.

I had no intention of leaving a review when I made the flippent remark about Trip advisor, but after being told point blank not too... well here we are!!

We care passionately about the service provided at Marshall Meadows and want every guest to feel that they had a friendly and enjoyable experience - great food, cosy bedrooms, good service. We have over 50 five star ratings on this site and have been awarded a tripadvisor certificate of excellence. As you can imagine we are bitterly disappointed to receive a review like this one. Hopefully visitors will read a few of the other reviews below and give us the benefit of the doubt.
All points in the above review have been noted and where possible acted upon. Apologies were offered privately and now publically to the couple concerned. We,like most hoteliers take all reviews on tripadvisor seriously because they do affect significantly the number of bookings and new guests that come to the hotel. Every member of our team- housekeeping, the bar and restaurant staff, reception the chefs- follow every review on tripadvisor because they do care and it does matter. I do try personally to reconcile any problems with our guests before their departure as that is how we learn to improve our service and I think this is what they should expect. I did point out the above facts about Tripadvisor to this couple in our conversation because it is the reality. It was not meant as a warning and certainly was not meant to be abusive.

Stayed weekend 16th/17th November, an enjoyable weekend with friends enhanced by this little gem of a hotel, food was to die for, nothing was too much trouble and service impeccable. Rooms were in main part of the house and though on the small size were adequate for our needs.
We were greeted in the bar with a glass of prosseco whilst we perused the exstensive menu and with a little assistance from the very knowledgable staff, the wine menu had some very decent wines which were not too expensive. My husband is still raving about his perfect steak and my minted lamb cutlets were the tastiest I have had for a while.
Breakfast was another must do meal and eggs benedict were superb.
Altogether a pleasant experience we will hopefully repeat in the near future.
