“Wonderful guest house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

A beautiful property in the heart of Berwick upon tweed and it was a pleasure to stay in this guest house. The owners are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble, the room was charming and spotlessly clean and the breakfast delicious and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and also would stay here again on our next trip to Berwick!

Chris Atkinson.
Durham "The real heart of England" These reviews are not made up, what a cracking place to stay,I was booked in next door with some golfing mates only to be told my twin room had been given to some "regular guests"!!! we were all paid up front but what the hell------- told I had to stay next door! "Thank God" my golf was not good but the place is brilliant.
The people that have left good reviews for next door obviously need medical help!
Sandra & Ian were a pleasure to stay with" clean bright lovely architecture" , oh did I mention next door "dirty dim cut my wrists".
"Quote"
"If you dont want the rooms offered you Know what to do---- GO TO HELL".
Well in that context I was sent to "Heaven"

Thanks Sandra & Ian.

Room Tip: AYE dont go next door!!!!!!

i work away a lot and i must say this is one of the best guest houses i have stayed in . the rooms were very clean and the ensuite was also spotless. the choice of menu for breakfast was very good and i chose the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs which was excellent. nothing was too much trouble and i would not hesitate to recommend this guest house to anyone whether they were on holiday or passing through on business. it was excellent value for money and i felt very welcome from the moment i arrived. it makes a difference to your day when you have had a good nights sleep and a tasty breakfast to get you on your way.

We needed a bed for a night, to tide us over from a holiday in Scotland to a family party in Newcastle. Berwick-upon-Tweed seemed like the ideal location and we found The Anchorage on tripadvisor. It's not immediately obvious from the road, and looks very much like all the other houses nearby however once you step through the door, the refurbishment of the old town house is amazing. The spiral staircase up the two flights gives the house a sense of grandeur and of space.

Sandra and Ian are perfect hosts, along with their dogs (I'm not a dog person but I could easily be converted!). We only had a limited time there, but Sandra was able to advise on some local restaurants, and we ended up at the indian on Bridge St which is highly recommeneded.

The rooms are a good size and have everything needed for a good night's sleep. The breakfast was excellent, with Sandra regaling her 'claim to fame' stories of famous people in Berwick.

First impressions of Berwick aren't brilliant, but I think that's because we didn't have enough time to explore the area - a walk along the town wall would have very probably changed my opinion.

I would definitely recommend The Anchorage if staying in Berwick.

As soon as you walk through the front door you are aware that the Anchorage is more than your average guest house. Spotless from top to bottom with a huge amount of thought being put into the décor. Comfy beds, very quiet for a town centre location made for a great nights sleep.Sandra is a lovely friendly host (we didn't get to meet Ian). Breakfast was excellent!!

We would recommend The Anchorage to anyone and definitely stay there again!!!

What a fine, beautifully restored haven to tie up in. At The Anchorage you will get a super, warm welcome; well furnished, well-equipped and comfortable rooms and a sumptuous breakfast - try the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon for a real treat! It is excellent value for money, we liked everything about it and would happily stay there again. Handy to walk into Berwick - there is a smashing traditional bakery shop just a hundred yards away that also supplies the Anchorage.
