“Will visit again and again!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

Been twice for the carvery and on both occasions we could not fault the food it was extremely tasty & filling, all you could eat. Service from the staff was excellent which made you feel welcome and relaxed from the start. We will definitely go back for more meals in the future. Pub is in a great location, lovely place to go even if you just want a drink. Plenty of space outside on the green for kids to run around and play.

“Nice pub, food not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

I have never left a review before but felt the need to on this occasion. We visited this pub twice for drinks during our week stay over Easter. The staff were very friendly & welcoming. We decided to book a table on our last night as a treat for the family. Although a lovely welcome again & great for drinks, unfortunately the food was not great. The menu is quite basic & half of the mains do not state what comes with the meal, the children's meals were the same. I had the fish cakes as a main ( not sure what I paid the extra £4 for apart from an extra greasy fish cake & no extra salad) my husband had the sirloin steak which came with onion rings (greasy) & chips, with a peppercorn sauce. Although OK but was not worth the £17.95, (chips & onion rings very greasy & all tasted the same). The kids dinners were awful. 1 Eyemouth fish goujons were that bad you couldn't eat them, served with greasy chips, served in the smallest Bowl. The other was chicken goujons again the same thick greasy batter, we had to remove the batter for my son to just eat the chicken, the same greasy no flavour chips...! Fortunately they did remove both kids meals from the bill, which we were grateful for-especially as we had only complained on 1 of them. Such a shame, I just hope we caught it on a bad night.

“We wish we had a 'local' like this.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We visited twice during a weeks stay near Paxton and were impressed. The normal menu looked a bit boring, but everything on the special board was tempting. We both had the starters as main courses as the portions were huge. The desserts were excellent. We found the restaurant a bit on the cold side though and the tables too close together for privacy, but otherwise very good and would recommend. Food was very reasonably priced.

“Great Country Pub / Restaurant Give it a try you will love it.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

As a resident of the village of Paxton I am so pleased to see our "local" firing on all cylinders once again. I have visited The Cross three times over the past weeks and the atmosphere ,food and service on each occasion has been first class. The new Team of Joanna and Vicki have got it just about right for a village Pub.They are providing good wholesome food at very attractive prices and making you feel very welcome at the same time. They have started doing Curry Nights and Steak Nights and are planning other special events soon. It's a great place to stop of for a drink and sample some good food and hospitality.Don't take my word for it go along and give it a try You won't be disappointed.

“Fantastic food & warm welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

We had a meal at The Cross Inn last night and I would have to say the food was fantastic, the welcome very friendly the only thing that let it down slightly was the service but only slightly. Our starters included creamy garlic mushrooms (the only complaint being there was to much) not a bad complaint also we had homemade pate and oatcakes which again was a very large portion but very nice and finally i had mussels in chilli and garlic which were wonderful, although a bowl of water for my messy fingers would have been appreciated. On to the mains which included fillet steak on a bed of black pudding with a peppercorn sauce, ribeye steak with a chilli sauce, steak & ale pie and lasagne which were all full of flavour and well presented, the only thing that dropped the quality of the night was the late serving of the vegetables and the lasagne ( which to be fair they removed from the bill which was much appreciated) my only other suggestion is maybe either a salad or tomato and mushrooms option with the steaks. The staff were very good and corrected the small errors very quickly. Will we back? Of course we will the food and ambience were great.
