We ate here 3 times while staying at Wandylaw just up the road. First night we got here late just before service finished... The barman rushed off to the kitchen to tell the chefs and we cider and local beer. As it was late and we'd had a big lunch, we decided on just the souop of the day and then straight to a shared cheese board. Both fantastic.
We came back twice more and each meal was delicious. According to our hosts at the B&B this happens a lot; why try anywhere else of you have found an absolute Gem?
the food was all well cooked with large but not too big protions. The menu is varied and although it carries the best of the gastro-pub favourites, it also had some more adventurous dishes as well. The decor is fine, but the food is the star attraction here. Every member of staff we met was helpful and freindly.
What was also important is that it is also very clearly a local pub with a very recognisable set of the usual local characters; I suspect the restaurant is keeping the public bar open and that's a very good thing!
