We ate here 3 times while staying at Wandylaw just up the road. First night we got here late just before service finished... The barman rushed off to the kitchen to tell the chefs and we cider and local beer. As it was late and we'd had a big lunch, we decided on just the souop of the day and then straight to a shared cheese board. Both fantastic.

We came back twice more and each meal was delicious. According to our hosts at the B&B this happens a lot; why try anywhere else of you have found an absolute Gem?

the food was all well cooked with large but not too big protions. The menu is varied and although it carries the best of the gastro-pub favourites, it also had some more adventurous dishes as well. The decor is fine, but the food is the star attraction here. Every member of staff we met was helpful and freindly.

What was also important is that it is also very clearly a local pub with a very recognisable set of the usual local characters; I suspect the restaurant is keeping the public bar open and that's a very good thing!

The welcome and food were excellent, my calves liver being a real treat. It was quiet when we called and we got very personal attention.

But don't stop here for a pub lunch - although we sat in the bar it was a substantial meal and rather more than we wanted or needed. We were hoping for a fairly light lunch after a morning driving and with the prospect of an evening meal at a restaurant in the course of a short break.

What a find a pub that provides superb food as well as providing many events for locals judging by the notice board. The vegetarian meal was way better than usual vegetarian fare.Pudding great and prices are more than reasonable for food of this standard.
Our dog was made welcome in the bar area so will be back when we are in the area again.

We got a taxi from Belford as we were looking forward to a good meal after having had 2 very average ones . We were not disappointed the menu and food was first class and well worth the journey. We appeared to be lucky to being served as weds was quiz night and most of the tables were reserved for those contestants ! They appeared to treat diners as second class citizens.
So go another night and enjoy

5 of us including 2 teenagers ate here for my wife's birthday recommended by a local farmer. Too be honest we were expecting pub grub but the food was of an extremely high standard. All the main courses were wolved down steak, calves liver, lamb tagine, venison and veggie risotto. It was full on the Saturday night so you need to book. Children were the only dessert eaters and they didn't enjoy them as much as the mains, I wouldn't say it's a place for young children unless there is a different menu we didn't see. All in all a very pleasnt experience.
