Just returned from a week in Skylark, a real home from home. This is the best self catering holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in; clean, spacious and very well equipped.
Each cottage has designated parking and private garden. The business is very efficiently run with a contact number for David, gardener/caretaker, to call if you have any problems. We had a minor problem when on the way out for a meal one evening the light bulb in the entrance hall blew and fused all the kitchen lighting. By the time we got back all had been sorted.
The complimentary bottle of wine and hospitality tray are a lovely welcoming touch.
The area was a pleasant surprise to us. Northumberland has so much to offer and we hadn't expected such an attractive countryside, the views are spectacular.
We only had one bad day of weather (not bad for September, or, let's face it, any time of year!) so we spent some time, and money, in Barters Bookshop in Alnwick, a huge place in the old railway station with, we believe, the best hot chocolate in Northumberland!
We have already decided that there is still plenty for us to do on our next visit and when we get round to planning it, Ross Cottages will definitely be where we will stay.
The only reason we did not give top marks for sleep quality is that we both found the bed too firm and were very achy first thing in the morning. I know this is a very subjective matter and you could not possibly get a mattress to suit everyone, so next time we will bring our mattress topper!
