“Nice country pub with decent food let down by one thing....”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

Okay, let me start by saying this is a nice, clean, decent little pub that allows dogs and children and does good food (even if it a little on the expensive side). There's entertainment of a good standard on most Friday and Saturday evenings and the beer garden is lovely and well kept. There's an excellent variation of beers, wines, spirits etc. and all in all, it's a fairly nice place to visit....BUT....(no doubt the bit you've been waiting for)...I've been working in the area now and frequenting the pub regularly for almost three months, yet whenever I step inside to the bar, I'm yet to feel a modicum of recognition or welcome. The (mostly young male) barstaff seem incredibly slow and disinterested and if I get called 'mate' or 'bud' once more I swear I'll scream. Furthermore, there's simply not enough of them at peak times. People are knee deep at the bar ordering food making the task of getting a simple drink nigh on impossible. For a high-end establishment clearly making a fortune this place clearly needs a dedicated food ordering point and some long overdue lessons in courtesy and customer service for the bar staff (waiting staff are not like this at all). It wouldn't be difficult to fix at all, but the difference would make to The Craster would be huge (and I know I'm not alone in thinking this). So Mr Manager, if you want five stars instead of three, heed my words of wisdom and make some changes. It certainly isn't rocket science...

Yes this is how it should be. Takes me back to when land lords/ladies took great pride in their houses. Well done!

“Happy days in the beer garden”
Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

Very nice place with average sandwiches.
The Craster arms has a beautiful beer garden with ample seating for both humans and dogs. We spent a very very pleasurable leisurely afternoon in the sun enjoying the setting.

The service was pretty good with food being delivered in a reasonable time. The sandwich ordered looked reasonably  appetising but unfortunately didn't live up to the high expectations suggested by the setting and the menu. Not many pubs have chateaubriand on their menu, although this was crossed out. My sandwhich of cheese savoury, which is a firm favourite Of mine ended up being pretty insipid with almost no flavour. The bread it was served on didn't help as it was bog standard whole meal from a supermarket.
