“Short stop but very pleasant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

We know and love the area well and haven't been for a while so we decided to treat ourselves to just one night here to allow us to make the most of the beach....we stayed Thursday night, room 5, overlooking the front street, above the bar, very little noise from the street or bar. The room was large with a spacious shower room, very comfy. We loved the bar, shame the fire wasn't on for extra ambience but once the bar filled up, nice and atmospheric. We dined in the restaurant, and have to say the food was delicious, value for money and really good portions, so well done chef! We thought the wine wasn't over priced either. Breakfast was great, i normally get the full english and give most to my better half, who's usually hungrier!! But I scoffed the lot. All the staff were lovely, no complaints at all. We had no complaints at all. A couple of minor points would go a long way to making the Lord Crewe even better; reception wasn't manned and took a few minutes before someone was able to come when we arrived, probably busy elsewhere, and not a problem for us but I suspect some guests would expect to be greeted straight away, feedback/suggestions forms would be good in the room. Overall great and would have no hesitation returning or recommending.

Room Tip: room 5 very spacious, no bath but large shower, great storage, overlooking front street / green but...

A comfortable two night stay. The room was very small but spotlessly clean and well furnished, shame the tv didn't work properly though this was a very minor inconvenience. Breakfast is adequate, I think better bread for toast and higher quality jams etc should be introduced. One waitress at breakfast was very brusque, and actully rather rude to the couple seated at next table who dared to contradict her ! To be honest the few little niggles are nothing when you walk out of the hotel to see the glorious sight of Bamburgh Castle and then stroll onto Britain's most beautiful beach..........absolutely fabulous, if you have not been yet you have missed something really special.

Room Tip: Go for one of feature rooms

Room a little cosy (i.e. small) but the view of Bamburgh Castle compensated for this. A lovely old hotel offering a great bar and restaurant right in the village. Parking a bit limited at the rear of the hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Superb breakfast. Loved the bath but steamed the whole place up!

We enjoyed our one night stay in the castle suite. Great castle view from room, though not great for photos as there are roofs etc in the way. Nice big bathtub. Dinner exceeded my expectations, some of the dishes were outstanding, like the seafood platter (huge), duck starter and the cornish bass with pernot risotto. Really big portions! Breakfast was good too. I loved the decor of the public areas.

Pleasant, relaxing surroundings, wished we could stay longer, we would recommend.

Stayed for two nights during the worst weather for 30 years but received a very warm welcome. All staff were very pleasant and helpful throughtout the whole stay. Our room, the Castle suite was excellent and lived up to its descriprtion, very clean and spacious with a very useful sitting area and large en suite.Ate once in the bar and once in the dining room, the menu is the same in both. Bar has a lovely cosy log burning stove. Decor is contemporary and some might say that the overall bar area lacks some of the cosiness normally expected in a country pub, however the end with the stove makes a lovely area to sit in.
The dining room whilst also contemporary is beautifully finished off and has a warm intimate feel.
A good choice of food, which was nicely presented and a typical choice at breakfast.
The accommodation is perhaps a little expensive but we have stayed in many places at similar prices that are nowhere near as good.
Location cannot be bettered, in the main street and not far from the beach and the castle.
Overall if you want to stay in Bamburgh, we would thoroughly recommend it

During a fortnight's holiday in Bamburgh, my partner and I had one lunch and one dinner at the Lord Crewe. The food was very good on both occasions, though the service was a little on the slow side. One waitress at dinner had an unfortunate attitude and was dismissive when asked a simple question, and decidedly rude when corrected on some misinformation she gave us. (It might be an idea for staff to at least know what is written on their own menu!) Although the ambience was generally good, like any restaurant, The Lord Crewe can only be as good as its weakest member of staff. Sadly, as a result of our encounter with the "attitudey" waitress, we were left thinking that the place promised far more than it delivered. There's a dfifference between being a true quality establishment and simply being pretentious. In this case the difference is attributable to the patronising attitude of a presumably quite junior staff member. So, could do better Lord Crewe!

We have just stayed for six nights at The Lord Crewe. The Hotel and our room was immaculately clean. The food was excellent with a good choice and plenty of it - we couldn't keep up with it, having to reduce ourselves to two starters and no main on a couple of nights, and only managed one sweet the six nights we were there. Many, many thanks to the Chefs. The staff are all friendly and polite and nothing is too much trouble. Can't wait to return.
