This hotel is very well situated for Bamburgh Castle (5 min walk) and only a short drive from Holy Island, which were the main reasons for our stay there.

Although the building is essentially quite old, it has recently been extended and modernised, with no expense spared; it appears clean light and airy, with an excellent standard of decoration and maintenance.

Our room was of modest size, light and airy, with great views over the countryside and with an adequate, and very well appointed, en-suite bathroom with a walk in shower. The bed was really comfortable, and the room was just was we needed, though there was no comfortable chair (not really sufficient space).

Although facing the 'main' road, the room was really quiet as there is virtually no traffic to speak of at night.

The 'hotel' really is a restaurant with rooms, and as such there is not a guest lounge, bar the cocktail bar. There is also no room service, but this was not a limitation as far as we were concerned.

The restaurant is one of the best we have visited for a long time. Specialising in local fish (reasonable choice from the land also), dinner here was memorable, the food quality and quantity is nothing short of excellent, with friendly service etc.

The proprietor Alex Watson was always around to make sure everything was just as expected.

Bar prices and choice were sensible for a small hotel, with a very good selection of wines, many at more reasonable prices than is typically the case for a restaurant of this quality.

Unsurprisingly breakfast was also excellent, with all the English classics available. There was no continental choice, but this was not an issue for us.

Car parking in the hotel itself is a bit limited, but there is space on the road outside if need be.

This is not by any means a 'budget' hotel, but the value I judged to be pretty reasonable, both for the room, and for dinner in the restaurant.

Managed to get the last table (didn't think we'd need to book on a Tuesday night) so glad we did!! Michael treated himself to the lobster, first time and loved it, so succulent, thoroughly recommend the scallops too-delicious!! I had turbot in the thermidore sauce to follow, absolutely divine. You could definitely tell we were by the coast, the fish was so fresh. All followed up with yummy sticky toffee pudding!!! Just the one problem......is too far from home for us to make it a regular haunt!!!!

We have dined at the Mizen Head Restaurant on several occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed each meal. We would recommend booking well in advance as it can be quite busy. The menu has a good balance of excellent sea food and traditional steak options. The Lobster Thermidor was magnificent and the sea bass equally tasteful. Although there were no "Moules" available on the menu due to being out of season there is usually a comprehensive range of dressings and flavours. Not to be missed.
Excellent selection of wine and very relaxing surroundings.

When asked by my wife where I wanted to go for a Birthday break, I said the Mizen Head in Bamburgh, we stayed last year for one night and had a lovely time, the location is in an area of outstanding beauty, there are lots of places to visit and fabulous unspoilt beaches.

The Mizzen Head is a restaurant with rooms, there are only six rooms, we booked the same room as our last visit which was a spacious, nicely appointed room overlooking open countryside. Bamburgh castle and the beaches are only a five minute walk away.

We had booked a meal in the restaurant on our first night for my Birthday with friends; we ate at the Castle Inn a few minutes’ walk away on the second night, but asked Alex the Manager to book us in the restaurant for the final last night as we had enjoyed the previous meal so much.

The restaurant seems to be always busy and it is advisable to book a table when you book a room, there are other places to eat but if you want a restaurant meal, in my opinion the Mizen Head is the best.

The Menu is mostly fish with a section on Muscles in various sauces, but choices of various steaks and chicken dishes and a few others are also available, some of the accompanying sauces were not to our taste but this did not pose a problem as we were offered alternative choices.

The prices are at the higher end but the quality of food and presentation is excellent, the restaurant is a pleasant room with friendly and efficient service from the staff; it also has the best selection of very good wines I have seen for a while.

Even if you don’t stay at the Mizen Head the restaurant it is well worth a visit.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant and as there are only six rooms was a very relaxing and peaceful affair, the usual choices were on offer, fruit juice, cereal, sliced fresh fruit, yoghurts, grilled breakfast, toast and preserves, there was also a choice kippers or scrambled egg and smoked salmon.

We had a very enjoyable 3 days with fantastic weather and are planning another stay here soon.

Stayed here for one night, and loved the area so much we decided to book into another hotel in Bamburgh for a second night - not the best decision as The Mizen Head was far superior, despite being cheaper. It's very nicely done out - a nice mix of traditional and contemporary, and the room we had was brilliant- big, bright, fantastically comfortable large bed, dual aspect window and spotless. Dinner was very good indeed, with lovely young staff, served in a big bright and airy dining room. The location is brilliant- literally a couple of minutes walk from the 'centre' of Bamburgh, and really quiet, so a great night's sleep guaranteed. I wonder though whether this place needs to sell itself better? Although the restaurant was busy, it seems the hotel itself wasn't full. Come on guys - get a good website up and running and really sell what is a fantastic place in a fantastic part of the country!

We dropped by on speck as stayed here a few years ago. As we read the menu outside, we relished that something had changed. Indeed, the hotel changed hands a couple of years ago. We were early and were shown into the small cocktail bar to have a drink while we ordered our food.
They offer an extensive seafood menu, all locally caught or sourced. The half lobster starter was lovely as was the crab and apple cocktail. i expected it to be mainly apple, used to bulk out the crab, but that wasnt the case. A minor issue though, the seasoning could have been better. The lobster main course was a delight as was the halibut. The fish is the star of the show but is tastefully accompanied by a beautifully presented selection of freshly cooked potatoes and vegetables. We found the staff to be casually attentive. We will definitely go back.
