We have just returned from a visit to Bamburgh Northumberland
We have been going there for short breakes for the last 12 years
where we have stayed at five different locations ,our favored stay was The Glenander B&B, but it's under new management and wont do eggs for breckfast, so we tried the newly furbished Mizen Head Hotel and found it to be excellent accomodation we had the large room with the kingsize bed which has got to be the best room in Bamburgh, and thay do eggs for breakfast

Having read the previous reviews, my wife and I booked 2 nights late May 2008. I agree with the other reviews regards the accomodation --- excellent and nice friendly owners. On our second evening we decided to eat in the hotel and had to book a table because it gets busy with non-residents. Chris is under pressure when it is busy and struggles to cope. Unfortunately there is a policy of allowing dogs in. Whilst eating your meal to have as many as FOUR dogs in at one point is not acceptable. Having being a licensing magistrate, we used to activley encourage landlords to discourage dogs into an establishment where food is being served. However the local authority licensing committee and local environmental health policy may differ.
Sorry dog owners.
The food was great however, I can recomend the sea bass

Discovered the hotel while browsing for accomodation in the Northumbrian village of Bamburgh. It has only recently reopened after being closed for 18 months for total refurbishment and building of a new extention. I initially requested a Superior Double room but unfortunately non were available and I accepted a Standard Double.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Chris the owner of the hotel and made most welcome. When we were shown to our room I was pleased to find that it exceeded our expectations, Spotlessly clean, new shower room and seperate toilet, nice clean crisp bedding beneath decorative throw and cushions.
There is a flat screen TV with integral DVD Player, ample supplies of Tea and Coffee (and kettle of course) and hairdryer.
The 'Bisro' style restaurant has a good selection of meals ranging from full roast meals to tasty pizzas all of which are very nice and reasonably priced.
The full English breakfast is worth going for if nothing else, you wouldn't need to eat again until your evening meal.

A very good standard hotel with friendly welcoming owners Chris and Kenny. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone.

We had been waiting for this hotel to re-open and due to problems with their web site we did not know it had. We travelled up to Bamburgh and were delighted to see that the hotel had recently re opened after complete refurbishment.
It was St Patrick's weekend and the hotel were celebrating the event on Sat 15th March 2008.
We checked in and were very happy with our room which was very attractively furnished with lovely views over the countryside. The bathroom was large and well designed.
We joined in with the St Patrick's Night and had a great time. The owners are very welcoming and have created a special hotel to which we will definitely return.

I stayed at the Mizen Head Hotel last weekend with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time. The room was beautiful - modern yet classic - and had great conveniences, including an LCD TV! The hotel has recently been refurbished and has a very fresh and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and professional and the owners made us feel at home. Our meal was beautiful. The food is all locally sourced, giving a real taste of Northumberland, and the homemade stone-baked pizzas are to die for! We will definitely be returning next year - and the year after that!

  • Liked — Friendliness, cleanliness, great food, great location.
  • Disliked — My only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer because I had to go back to work!

The Mizen Head has just re-opened to reveal a fantastic, warm, friendly cosy place to stay in one of Northumberland’s historic and beautiful villages. For 18 months the hotel has been closed and during this time I have been working with the owners in planning my wedding and holding my wedding reception at the Mizen Head. The work that they have carried out has transformed this hotel into a modern, fresh and vibrant establishment with lots of key character features (the stain glass window and fires). From the start of the building process my partner and I had every faith that this renovation work would be carried out and finished come our wedding day, and the owners did us proud. The rooms are big and fabulously decorated with all modern facilities. The two family rooms have a sea view. Room 7 has a fantastic bathroom, fit enough for a queen, with a huge bath (3 people can fit in) and is a great room to pamper yourself and get ready. The food is second to none, I have been in the other establishments in Bamburgh and now I have sampled what the Mizen Head can offer I certainly will be back year in year out. The staff are friendly, and can’t do enough for you. The selection of beer, wines, ales and spirits are vast and not over priced. We felt thoroughly spoilt, looked after and all the guests at our wedding were in awe. Great job to the owners! Thank you for making our day so special. When I have the photo’s back I will post them for everyone to see the fine job that has been done.

We found this a good value for money hotel in a beautiful location - open fire to sit by in the evening and we were just five minutes walk from the fabulous beaches to run our dogs. Some things a bit tired BUT Take note that this hotel will be completely altered and re-ffitted for the 2007 season so we can't wait to book again for next year.
