excellent fare and restful dining experience. our trip to the Mizen Head was a long drive from Nth. Tyneside and it was well worth it on a cold March day, as the food was a very enjoyable experience.

“The best!”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Ate here on Friday evening and can recommend it as serving some of the best food I have ever tasted.
The best selection and quality of mussels I have ever eaten in the UK.
Ribeye steak with fresh tarragon sauce....a dream.
Unfortunately no space left for any dessert or cheese....

“Faultless”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We were staying at the hotel and decided to use the restaurant too. Plenty of staff around, we were never left waiting or wanting. I chose mussels in a Spanish-inspired sauce followed by whole sole. My wife chose calamari followed by turbot. Nice desserts followed.

The restaurant was warm, formally laid out but otherwise casual. Prices were more than you'd expect to pay locally, but for this standard of food and service, was really very reasonable. (The fish mains came in at around £16 for example). Meal for two with a glass of wine and coffee came to about £75.

Can't think of any reason to mark down this restaurant. The coffee was't great, but that's not enough to dent the five stars.

“The best place for seafood for miles around”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Have been a few times and love the extensive menu, even at lunchtime in the winter. Beautifully prepared, delicious food in a lovely dining room. The only (slight) criticism is that it would be nice for the prawns in curry to be shelled before serving - or at least a finger bowl supplied. But all in all I would still recommend the Mizen and give it top ranking.

“Delicious lunch in lovely surroundings”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

Our first visit to Mizen Head, taken by friends who dine here regularly - and we can see why! The dining room is elegant , light and tranquil; the service is excellent - professional and friendly; the food is delicious . Although predominantly a fish restaurant, carnivores and vegetarians are not forgotten. The home made breads were far too good and we had to order more. Between us we had Asian crab soup, mackerel pâté , frito miso, seafood platter, haddock, and fish curry and each was delicious . The puddings looked too good to refuse and did not disappoint. Somehow We managed to eat our way through most of a Bamburgh Mess, a marmalade steamed pudding and a selection of sorbets and enjoyed everyone. What a find!
