As we had stayed at this hotel for few days last year, we decided to stay for longer this year. It was a disappointment. The room was the same, spacious and clean. The staff were excellent, they could not have been more helpful. Our disappointment is firstly with the menu. Many items are on the menu permanently and a few changes are made daily but the whole thing is on a three day cycle. So wait a few days and everything is repeated. Fine if you eat all but if you are on a restricted diet, which one of us is, then it leaves little choice. The dessert menu is never changed! Secondly, rather than full of antiques, the public areas are full of tat and far too much of it. Thirdly, the gardens are not very well kept. Many areas are overgrown and where it has been mowed the trimmings have just been left. The driveways need a good weed. Will not be returning.

Waren House is a lovely house in its own grounds, not very big, but we like that. The hotel is full of antiques and very old paintings, which all added to the ambiance of the place. The Restaurant in the hotel was fabulous, no need to go anywhere else, it had it all, and as one other person, not be put with the portion sizes, in this restaurant it is quality that outweighs size, as it should be in a decent restaurant. We had 5 course option with our stay, and did not disappoint, firstly into the lovely old drawing room for drinks, along with canapes, very nice, then into the restaurant, very nicely set out, we had the table in the bay window, we then had a 'taster starter' of cream of cauliflower soup, with homemade little breads, warm, and I could have been happy at just having the soup, it was to die for. Then our starter, followed by a sorbet, then main meal, and then of course sweet. Along with a nice bottle of wine, this was lovely. Retired to a lovely room, we had 'The Nursery', second floor, so two flights of stairs to walk up, but a beautiful view from our room overlooking the lovely garden. My only one point of advice would be to update the bathroom, an old blue suite, very nice for the seventies, but not these days, on saying that it did fit in with the style of the room, but still thinks a nice white suite would finish this room, again, this is my own personal point of view, other than that, the hotel and staff was really nice, and would go back again.

Room Tip: no lifts in this hotel, so choose we care, if you have problems with stairs.

I would never of expected such a grand place to allow dogs. However, staying in our own
separate area with a yard, it was perfect. The food was fabulous! Don't be put off by the small portions, as you will be full by the end of your meal. Can't wait to go back again soon as just
moved house and need to escape while work being done. Well done to all the staff who were fantastic. Probably nicest place I have ever stayed! The dog loved it as well!

This was a really nice place to stay. We spent one night to celebrate a birthday and the dinner was excellent. Only 3 couples in dining-room but no problem having to whisper as seated well apart - don't agree with one reviewer suggesting "tinkly music" . Had a suite in the courtyard which was very spacious and beautifully furnished in a spanish style. Weather was very cold with zero temperatures but our room was warm and comfortable. Hope to return one day.

Stayed here for one night....taking advantage of a great value offer for B&B&EM. The hotel is walking distance from the coast at Budle bay....just north of Bamburgh and its magnificent castle. A very traditional place....full of quirky antique mirrors, clocks and sombre portraits. The staff were universally welcoming and attentive....real customer service and attention to detail. The evening meal was a highlight. Drinks and nibbles in the snug beforehand.....then superb food....local produce, well cooked and beautifully presented. Thought the restaurant could have done with some tinkly background music though....everyone was very hushed....bit like a doctor's waiting room.
The only snag was the fact that the hotel is so traditional, they must carry hot water in wicker baskets up to a tank in the roof....because there wasn't very much of it at all. Getting clean in the morning meant sitting in 2" of lukewarm water.
Apart from that full marks.

Fascinating hotel in a beautiful setting with really friendly and helpful staff. Yes it is quirky but I think that is a real bonus. I stayed in the Oriental Room which was just that with decor and ornaments in keeping with the theme. Throughout the hotel there are numerous interesting portraits, antiques etc which give the place a really different and enjoyable atmosphere. My booking included a 5 course evening meal as well as B&B, the food was delicious - including pre meal canapes - and the choice of wines superb, fantastic value for money given the quality. All this and the most beautiful stretch of coastline that England has to offer and a tremendous snow storm which just made the roaring fires in the hotel seem even more perfect. Definitely a hotel worth considering if you like quality with a personality all of it's own.
