Description: The Treehouse is one of the most magical and unique restaurants to be found anywhere in the world. It’s high up in the treetops, with a roaring log fire in the centre of the room and trees growing through the floor. Most importantly, the locally-inspired food is delicious. Always featuring local fish and seafood, meats from Northumberland’s farmlands and other regional specialities, the Treehouse Restaurant menus highlight local quality, taste and change throughout the seasons. There’s a great wine list, a good range of beers and regular live music. For a family dining experience that you’ll all enjoy, a great night out with friends or a romantic dinner for two, there’s nowhere quite like it. We always recommend booking ahead for lunch or dinner.

When a restaurant is this close to a major tourist attraction (Alnwick Water Gardens) it does make me a little apprehensive. Mass catering isn't something we Brits have ever quite figured out how to do. Couple that with it's location in one of Europe's largest tree houses and I was dreading some kind of themed eatery with staff dressed up to look like something out of Lord Of The Rings.

I need not have worried. The food is very good and the service very friendly.

The loos are at the top of a spiral staircase and I would recommend visiting them before attacking the excellent locally brewed beer!

The interior is very reminiscent of a mountain restaurant in a ski resort except that the bill is about a third of that you would find half way up the Alps. I didn't have the nerve to sit on one of the 'rustic' chairs that appeared to be a triumph of design over comfort - but I could be mistaken.

After our very enjoyable lunch we left via a jungle like rope bridge to complete the disorientation begun in the oxygen starved loo.

2 Courses £18.50, 3 Courses £23.75

A mixed review from us. We had not been before and we were very confused about which area seated the cafe and which area was the restaurant area. The restaurant was full and so we had to sit outside- very cold! The cafe food was cooked at the restaurant. The lady serving in the cafe did not know how the system worked or what products were available. This concerned us as our son has severe allergies. The adults enjoyed a cup of soup whilst the children had lunch boxes. The prices were a little high but not unreasonable. I was baffled by the refusal to serve anything but malted bread. We waited 45 minutes for the children's cheese sandwiches. We were very cold and our order was clearly forgotten. Worse still the toilets are quite a walk. We were offered ham sandwiches after we complained! The waitress was very polite and apologetic and it is purely down to her that I have awarded 3.

We have rounded off two holidays this year in the Alnwick area with Sunday lunch at the Treehouse before setting off back home and I have to say that on both occasions, it really rounded off the week very nicely. We just love the quirkiness of the place which creates a great atmosphere and have found all the staff but to efficient, helpful and pleasant. As for the food, we couldn't find one thing to complain about - beautiful, tender, tasty meats, excellent homemade soups, terrine par excellence and puddings to die for!! We consider that the prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of the food, good service and unusual surroundings. Well done - we'll be back next year for sure.

This place must be unique - not only is it up in the trees but the interior gives the impression of being in an enchanted forest. The food is very good too, and the staff friendly and attentive. All in all, a truly memorable experience

Book your table, Then when you turn up, have a drink in the Potting Shed and wonder at this wonderful setting in the trees until you are ushered to your table in this incredible building.

In the winter they have this amazing fire blazing away to make you feel warm and cosy straight away.

The service is second to non, If you want fast service like one or two people have complained about I suggest you go to McDonalds!!

The food is great, why not try one of the cocktails

No complaints from us including our 13yo niece.

At some time you might like to try the wobbly bridges, if you dare!

We will be back and a BIG thank you to all the staff who do their best to make you feel special.
