Description: The Treehouse is one of the most magical and unique restaurants to be found anywhere in the world. It’s high up in the treetops, with a roaring log fire in the centre of the room and trees growing through the floor. Most importantly, the locally-inspired food is delicious. Always featuring local fish and seafood, meats from Northumberland’s farmlands and other regional specialities, the Treehouse Restaurant menus highlight local quality, taste and change throughout the seasons. There’s a great wine list, a good range of beers and regular live music. For a family dining experience that you’ll all enjoy, a great night out with friends or a romantic dinner for two, there’s nowhere quite like it. We always recommend booking ahead for lunch or dinner.

we had travelled 600 miles from hampshire to alnwick with family visiting us from abroad. We had booked into the restaurant for lunch during the May half term. We were delayed at the castle as the children were watching a show by the Harry Potter characters. The restaurant refused to accommodate us even after we explained to them the distance we had travelled for this experience, as we had heard good reviews about the treehouse. They had no response to why they did not call my mobile to confirm is we were still coming or not. We did not have their phone number as our booking was done on email. It was such a let down for 4 children who were so looking forward to eating in a treehouse. its not a distance we would ever do again just to have this experience!

Hi There,

Thanks for taking the time to post your comments - I am sorry to hear you were unable to dine with us, however, I feel I must point out a few things;

As I'm sure you can appreciate by the way you identified your visit was during school holidays, as a top restaurant within a tourist destination, we were extremely busy the day of your visit, which is why we impose a maximum allowance for lateness of 30 minutes on all of our bookings, after which time, we give the table away to customers present who require a table on a first come, first serve basis.

It is certainly not the case that we refused to accommodate you; rather we were unable to, given your lateness of 1 hour and given the fact that after waiting for more than the regular time of 30 minutes (45 minutes, in fact), we had no choice but to give away the table, rather than disappoint our other customers by delaying service any further.

With regards to being unable to contact us, I would like to point out that our phone number is at the bottom of every email we send out, can be found on our website, social networking pages and is also known at every department of the Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle - had you asked for assistance from any member of staff in either site I'm assured they would have been more than happy to contact us on your behalf.

Besides which, we are aware that the Harry Potter actors frequent the castle at many times of the day - again, Castle staff would have been more than happy to help you plan your day such that you could prioritise making your booking at the restaurant on time.

Once again, it is unfortunate that you were not able to dine with us, and we hope you still managed to enjoy your time in Northumberland, but I cannot accept this instance as our fault.

Kindest Regards,

David Scott

Where do I start! We booked for a sunday lunch time approximately 2 weeks in advance when we had planned to attend Alnwick Castle. The waitress we booked with advised that saturday nights and sunday lunches are often very busy. From the moment the treehouse popped into vision we were amazed. Even though it was a beautiful day there were fairy lights both inside and outside...i'm sure this would look even more magical at night!

We were booked in at 2.30 and taken straight to our table. We ordered our drinks and were amused to see a number of cocktails named after the Dutchess of Northumberland! There was plenty to choose from on the menu, with the option of two course for £18.50, and three for about £22. There was a few options of roast lunches, but also alternatives for those people that wanted something a bit different. We choose Beef and Pork for the Main, and Cheesecake and Brownie for dessert. There was vegetarian options for all courses (Risotto i think) and i was impressed by their selection of fish dishes.

Our food arrived within approximately 30 minutes, despite being a busy sunday lunch time. The waitress apologised for the wait and gave us our next round of drinks for free - even when we protested that we hadnt waited long at all! We were served by three waitresses, all very attentive and it was clear that the staff were communicating well in their team.

The presentation and quality of the food was impressive. There was plenty to eat, although had i have brought my partner he may have thought the portion sizes to be slightly on the small side. My sisters 'Lavender and White Chololate' cheesecake was served in a flower pot, and even the teapot post meal was intruiging!

The restaraunt itself was beautiful, with most things lovingly carved out of wood. Even the menu's were wooden!

For people visiting with children i am sure they would find it even more magical! I didnt notice a separate childrens menu, and if they are fussy eaters they may struggle. That said, i did over hear a waitress offering for the chef to make some homemade fish fingers for their children.

Overall, a magical experience with fantastic food, i would not hestistate to visit again! Thank you!

Unique setting, good food but small portions for the price, so not good value. Expected more. If you want to pay for the setting then worth a visit.

Hello There,

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant; the setting of the restaurant is indeed unique, and I can assure you that value for money is something we consider greatly when designing our menus and offers.

At The Treehouse, we try to use wherever possible local produce, and we always use quality produce - unfortunately premium produce incurs a premium price tag even for us as restaurant purchasers, so the only option for us is to charge the prices that we do. I think you'll agree that you get what you pay for, and for the price of our dishes we ensure absolute quality and freshness of ingredients. We get smaller daily fresh deliveries rather than bulk freezing to make sure that we serve only the best food, and that is reflected in the price.

I hope you can understand our position, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

This was without doubt one of the most unique restaurants I have ever eaten in. wonderful wonderful decor, warm without being hot but not cold at all.

outside you'd not think it so big but it was huge.

lovely little cafe and tables in and outside the main restaurant.

rope bridges for the kids and/or adults (!) to play on.

the food is really well presented and very very tasty.

prices are reasonable to and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

the staff were also very attentive and considerate.

A really lovely place to eat for a special treat! Myself and a friend dined at the Treehouse on 26th May,we had booked well in advance and ate in the evening. The treehouse was amazing, all lit up with fairy lights and lanterns and a log fire in the centre. Our meals were really tasty and not overpriced however the vino is expensive so I had to pace myself! If you are in the area you must experience this !
