Fantastic place to visit for an hour or two whether or not you are an avid book reader you cannot help but admire what has been achieved here and certainly a nostalgic trip down memory lane for us with some of the children's books. There is seating available if you want to peruse some of the books, and in addition to this a lovely little cafe called The Station Buffet which has a great selection to choose from at decent prices, as well as an honesty box for coffee and biscuits. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Fantastic place for anyone who loves books. They have a wide selection of very specialist/ antique collections as well as regular novels. The book swapping system is wonderful. Staff are very friendly and it is a quick walk away from Alnwick town centre/ the castle which are both well worth a visit.

A second hand book shop in the lovely town of Alnwick, based in an old restored railway station, with railway memorabilia & poetry emblazoned around the shop. This shop has thousands of second hand books from rare first editions to more recent books, with lovely old chairs & tables scattered around to sit and browse the books. There is also an honesty box for filter coffee in the front part of the shop, and to the side, in the old waiting rooms there is a small area called the Station Buffet. There are also a few computers available to use. This place is well signposted when approaching Alnwick and if you love books,as I do, it is SO well worth a visit

I went to Alnwick for a night away with my husband first stopping at Barter Books as the name of the place suggests you take your old books hand them over to be valued then if they want them they give you a price, you set up an account and you get any money paid into it. to redeam your money you go and choose another book and they take this of your balance.
Barter Books is in side the old Railway station and is full from floor to ceiling with a wide range of books ,a small cafe and a warm welcome .
We stayed in the Beaconsfield bed and breakfast 5 mins away from Barter.Books which I would recommend to anybody for a nights stay, the owner was very friendly and the bed and breakfast was very private with only 2 rooms for clients. There are plenty of pubs with Real Ales the best on being the Tanners Arms we will defiantly going back
