Very convenient pub/hotel to use if visiting the castle and gardens.
Good sized room with generous double (two singles attached) and a single but very low lighting levels made the room seem a bit dour and generally perhaps needed some refreshing. £90 was plenty to pay considering what the motel chains offer but I suppose you are paying for the location in Alnwick.
The food was generous in portions the most popular seemed to be the carvery a good deal at two courses for £10 before 7pm. We tried the blackboard menu the order was taken quickly but the food took ages to arrive, my wife was very pleased with the belly pork I was less happy with the loin chops in chilli. The chops were overcooked, ( obviously so and any chef should have spotted the black edges) and all you could taste was chilli, zero for subtlety. Carvery for me if I call again.
Limited wines but very decent beers.
Breakfast was fine but not outstanding, very dry scrambled eggs for instance.

Four of us enjoyed lunch in the restaurant in early July 2013. The food was good, plentiful and very reasonably priced. Service was good. Only one of us partook of alcohol, and really enjoyed a pint of Jennings Bitter.

This was the first time we've stayed here although we've eaten here a couple of time over the years. The food is superb and well worth a 5 star rating. We had the carvery on the first night and the meat was delicious and the vegetables excellent. On the second night we opted for the menu. My wife had chicken and I had salmon. Both were truly excellent. I've only given a 4 star rating overall as the rooms are not as good as the food. Our room was tastefully decorated but it was "brownish" and consequently the room was dark. The bed was comfortable and as reported by others the re was road noise during the evening but not at night. The bathroom has had some work done on it, but could do with some more. We mentioned this to the staff who said that the cast iron baths are being progressively re-coated by the new owner (who was previously the head chef) who had taken over in March 2013 i.e. 3 months ago. Good luck with the restoration and we'll no doubt be back at some stage in the future. As a footnote, you might wish to consider enhancing your website to provide more information. If I hadn't eaten there before and knew you had rooms I probably wouldn't have booked.

Room Tip: Take an upstairs room as the floors are creaky and you may be disturbed by people padding to the loo...

We came here in search of food while staying in a nearby B&B. The menu was extensive and exciting, with many local attractions. The delivered food was just beautiful and the portions quite large. Experience was that good we returned next evening. On a Sunday it would be worth trying the carvery, especially the yorkshire pudding!

The hotel caught our eyes as we drove by, it looked like a nice small inn, so we turned around and registered for two nights. We were in Alnwick to see the castle and gardens, and the hotel turned out to be a good place to base. They have a large car park and that's always a plus. The location is just 1/2 mile from the center of town and the castle grounds, so walking from the hotel is an option. The hotel made a positive impression from the begining, and they gave us a large room with a king bed. It also had a large bathroom, and everything worked as it should. Our room was on the first floor, so there was just one flight of stairs to navigate. The room furnishings were in good, not great, condition, and the bed was fine. We also had dinner one night in the restaurant, and enjoyed the food and the ambience very much. And, we had personal service for breakfast and a full cooked meal. Overall I think the hotel was a great choice and can fully recommend it to tourists.

We pulled off the A1 at Alnwick to go to the services but missed them. We turned around and saw this hotel. Tired we decided to stop and eat. They had their Sunday carvery on and boy did it look good. The taste and quantity did not disappoint, very moreish.

We enjoyed the meal so much and the staff that we decided not to go on to find a bed but to stop the night their.

The room was very spacious and well laid out, looked as if it had been recently redecorated. yes, it was on a main road and during the day could be noisy but during the night there was no noise. A very sound sleep.

Breakfast was as well cooked and tasty as the dinner had been.

All in all a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone
