“Expensive day out”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

A beautiful castle which I really enjoyed walking around and the state rooms were lovely but I wish there could have been more rooms to see in the castle. The castle grounds very nicely presented (although didn't see the formal gardens due to cost). We enjoyed the stuff the kids, the dungeons and dragons but there isn't much for very young children. For the cost of the day out too it is very expensive. I enjoyed it but just came away feeling it was too much money for what we had seen.

“Lovely castle and grounds good for families”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

Visited in April 2013 during the Easter break. This castle is where part of the first two harry potter films were made and tends to rely on this. There were broomstick flying lessons, a dragons quest, dressing up and making activists for children - all of which were free once you were in. I would highly recommend a trip to the poison garden which was fascinating and the water features were fabulous - beware the one that explodes all over unsuspecting tourists!!! You are also able to validate your ticket so you can visit free again within one year

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

My wife and I felt that the whole atmosphere and set up for the castle was Disneyesque, which really did not create the right mood. There is little doubt that the castle itself is an imposing building, but it sadly lacks character and charisma and we both found the state rooms boring.

The reliance on its Harry Potter connection was not appreciated either, although youngsters would no doubt find this a bonus.

“One not to miss.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

This is a magnificent castle, both inside and out. Castle is steeped in history and well provided with friendly and knowledgable guides. The audio presentation by the Duke, who was the spare rather than the heir, is informative and amusing.

“Interesting!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

I went there because I'm a harry potter fan, but it turned out to be very interesting! We can only visit a small part of the inside of the castle, but it's beautiful inside. Outside the castle, there is a beautiful view on the countryside. There are some animations for kids that I haven't tried, but I did the "flying lesson" which was really funny and entertaining! Overall, a really cool afternoon!
