Description: Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.

Came here for a light lunch on a day trip to Alnwick. The pea and ham soup was delicious and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches were excellent. We were spoiled for choice by the menu. Service was efficient and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The cakes looked gorgeous but I couldn't manage to fit one in! Will definitely go again.

We have visited this place many time but I always have the seafood platter which is >80% seafood with at least 5 or 6 large amounts tasty and tremendous VFM! Also, nice bottled beers on offer, at not too much of a mark up. My partner chooses different things each time and is always willing to return each time we come to Alnwick though we do go to other places too.

It is located underneath a shop and very small but big seats make you not feel cramped in. Only drawback steep stairs for those of you that are less agile it may be hard work getting back out.

To me there isn't anything too special about Grannies, but there is nothing wrong with it at all.
Service is good.
Food is nice - with good portions (great for me)
The seating area is a little cramped, but is still reasonable enough.
Good Visit.

Cute, quaint and a lovely friendly atmosphere. Great service. This was possibly the largest lunch ever! Fresh ingredients and nice combinations. I wish I had had chance to return here. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Alnwick - Grannies is a splendid place!
