Description: Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.

We called in here about 2.30pm last Saturday intending to have coffee and scones, we went downstairs and sat at a table, the first thing I noticed was how uncomfortable the chairs are, wooden with straight upright backs to them, then a waitress arrived, we asked for two cafetieres of coffee, sorry they are broken but you can have cups and free refills she replied, can we have fruit scones?, sorry we only have one cheese scone and some strawberry scones left, okay we'll have two cups of coffee and the one cheese scone, can we have cream with our coffee? sorry we have no cream............. okay, we left and went elsewhere. We wouldn't go back, it is a bit small and cramped downstairs and they don't seem to have much to choose from on Saturdays, certainly not compared to other places.

Pros: Very generously filled sandwiches with lots of tasty side salad & coleslaw. Good value & lovely atmosphere for a luchtime meal.

A little cramped when the tea room is full & the icecream milkshake could have been a bit thicker

One of the best cafés I have been to in the Bamburgh area. Just as the title says, the food was great quality, the portions were very generous and at great prices! Would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be visiting again!

We had a very substantial and very enjoyable lunch here, in the quirky surroundings of Grannies kitchen, complete with her old bloomers hanging up to dry over the stove!
The panini and sandwich were well-filled and accompanied by a well mixed and dressed salad. Cappuccino coffees were excellent too.
We normally prefer to eat with a view, but this downstairs restaurant is well worth a visit, and we will be sure to visit again when in the area.

Popped in for tea, surprised by the first question "Do you have a reservation" Not hello, welcome or anything like that. once it was established we didn't have one, we were seated, the order was taken promptly and the cakes on offer described.

The tea arrived, no milk! The question was asked, "do you want milk" who doesn't have milk with tea? Anyway the question was irrelevant as no one brought the requested milk, I asked a passing member of staff if we could have milk, she said she would fetch some, I am so glad my wife walked up and requested some personally as I am sure none would have arrived had she not.

The cake, well a whole piece would have been nice! What with the milk experience we decided to drink/eat up and leave.
