This curry house had a large selection of dishes and the ones we had were really tasty and the portion sizes were just right. The only criticism was that there was only one person waiting tables and, as he also had to deal with the carry-out orders, it meant that he seemed a bit overworked and stressed as the place got busier.

On arriving at Alnwick we were unable to check into the B&B so we decided to eat first. Having walked into the town we decided on Indian but didn't know where to find one. I asked two passing young men who pointed out the Varanda with 'best indian in town' comment.
We were the first into the restaurant [ sunday evening ] and as such we dealt with efficiently.
The pickle tray[ complimentary ] was very good although the mango chutney was slightly sweeter than usual but the green chilli was delicious.
The mixed platter starter was very good. The prawns were delicious. The onion bhaji although tasty was slightly milder than my usual preference as there was no chilli in it.
The murgh sagwala and the murgh rogan josh were very tasty indeed and just enough without overfacing.
The peshwari nan were really really good. In fact they were the best we've had anywhere.
There were two downsides to the evening. The first being that the tea was cold and dreadful, the second being that the prices of drinks are on the high side.
Other than this the evening was very good.

We ate here one night and sat in. The food was good, may be not as hot and spicy as I like, but tasty and well cooked all the same. Some of the other comments made on here are a little harsh but obviously they are only personal opinions. There were things on the menu that we had not seen before. We enjoyed a thoroughly nice meal, not over the top and we were pleasantly full. The decor was typically Indian in nature but most people go to restaurants for the food and not the decor. If we came to Alnwick again, we would quite possibly eat here or one of the other local restaurants. There were certainly many to choose from to cater for all tastes. Overall, a very nice meal.
