“Awful”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

£23 it cost to eat here, what a waste of money.

Ordered the red lentil soup, husband had baguette, kids boxes also ordered.
After about 15 minutes the kids boxes came, followed about 5 minutes later by the baguette. 10 minutes later when everyone had finished someone remembered my soup and came over with some green floury slop in a bowl.
I returned it saying it was not red lentil soup, was tasteless and had lumps of skin floating in it.
The man behind the counter sneered at me and said 'well i can smell the lentils from here'. With some persuasion he agreed to change it, but the tone had already been set with poor food, poor service and a poor attitude.
They also had a note up in the toilet which read 'our sink was pulled from the wall yesterday, presumeably by a child'!! I dont really appreciate this type of note, clearly children are not welcome and only do damage, or so they think.

You would be better off getting a pasty from Greggs over the road, better food, better service and better value

“Very clean, child friendly and good tasty food”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

Been on holiday to Bambrugh with our extended family and went to Bailey's cafe four times over the week. Each time we were made to feel very welcome and highchairs, toys etc were always availebale for our kids. We all had panins and the kids had the children's boxes followed by cake and cream tea. Next time we all had the afternoon tea which was great value for money and they put the cakes we couldn't eat into take way bags. All in all we thought this cafe shoyld have five stars. We don't usually bother to write reviews mainly because we are tooo busy but thought we should this time.

“A happy relaxed cafe that locals and visitors love”
Reviewed February 28, 2012

We live in Alnwick and have spent many a happy hour in this cafe with friends and family. Everyone is friendly and the food, especially the scones are delicious. Lots of locals and visitors use this cafe to meet and I would recommend it to anyone. The coffee is definitely the best in Alnwick!

“Don't bother”
Reviewed February 25, 2012

For being such a well presented establishment you are let down the minute you walk through the door. OK so it was February, not the busiest time of the year. But surely you should have enough staff on so that they could provide an adequate level of service.

Step 1. Find a table that has no dirty dishes on it. OK can't do that, so move dirty dishes to end of table and sit down. (At least 6 of the tables had used plates / cups on them)

Step 2. Decide what to order. OK I am wheat and dairy free. Where's the wheat free cakes? Ask waiter (1 of 2 working) behind counter - eh, don't know. The almond slice is gluten free though. OK is it made with butter or vegetable margarine? Eh don't know. OK I'll just have a cup of tea then. If the food is all fresh baked why don't they know what's in it?

Step 3. Place order - 1 toasted tea cake (waiter takes it out of supermarket pack of four and puts in toaster), 1 fruit scone (puts in microwave and forgets it), 2 teas and 1 filter coffee.

Step 4. Waiter brings order. 1 toasted teacake delivered. Eat toasted teacake. Wait 10 minutes, waiter remembers scone in microwave. Waiter delivers pot of tea for 2 that has the blackest, weakest, most tasteless tea that I have had. Wait another 5 minutes then scone arrives followed by filter coffee!

Step 5. Leave shop.

I would recommend step 5 carried out before even thinking about 1,2,3 or 4!
