“A little Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2014

We got married nearby at Newton Hall, so we ate at the Joiners Arms the night before and my wife stayed the night before the wedding too. We also recently returned for our anniversary on the 3rd of March.

We absolutely love this place, such a lovely atmosphere, the food is absolutely superb - not B&B superb, fine dining superb. The manager is a very kind and easy to approach kind of chap who goes out of his way to make the experience brilliant.

If we lived closer we would be regulars, can't really say a bad word about the place. The rooms are also superb, finished to an unusually high standard.

“So disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2014

We were so disappointed by our meal - we visit regularly on our trips to Alnwick, but tonight's meal fell short of what we have come to expect. Goats cheese starter had only five small cubes of cheese & soft pine nuts. Pasta starter tasteless. Although fish & chip main excellent, the hake was swimming in bland cream sauce. Service was very slow - two large groups appeared to be priority to couples. Very long wait for dessert menus did allow time to digest food. Special brownie dessert - with raspberries arrived with two- hardly worth mentioning in description. Further long wait for bill - not offered coffees/ liqueurs. Something jot right here tonight.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2014

We travel to Northumberland twice a year and always go to the Joiners Arms several times on our visits. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent and the service is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are excellent with our Dalmation dog who is a nervous boy. We cannot recommend this pub and all its staff and management highly enough. The food is served hot, very tasty and very quickly. We cannot wait to return!!! Thanks Joiners Arms. Pip & Stu Hepworth, Killinghall Near Harrogate xxx

“good food but incredibly slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

the staff are very friendly, and the food is very good, but the wait on good friday was very long indeed, with no comment from the staff. they could pop over and say they are sorry for the wait and would we like another drink, but no, they didnt. they are not the best trained to offer a high level of customer service. however they are friendly enough and the food and the setting is great and lots of doggies so nice relaxed ambiance. could offer more vegetarian options which dont include cheese. how about cous. cous and roasted veg? or a lovely salad of interesting ingredients.

“Eating at the Joiners Arms, Newton by the Sea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

It was our first visit here when we called for lunch during our stay further up the coast in April 2014. The food was so good, we had crab and all the trimmings. Enjoyed it so much we returned a couple of days later for evening meal and the fish was as described- as big a catch as the boat could bring in! All round great food. Happy staff helps a lot too. Need to book for evening table and the only problem we had was parking the car, car park at pub very small and off road parking very limited.
