“Best Curry in Northumberland...”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

I'm a little surprised by some of the reviews and comments on Tripadvisor for the Bengal Cottage. My father and I are curry-a-holics. I travel a lot and reguarly enjoy the best that London, Birmingham, Edinburgh has to offer. When home (near Wooler) I reguarly get takeaway from the Bengal Cottage, with a couple of sit-down meals a year there too.

To get a takeaway from The Bengal Cottage is, for me, 30miles of back roads - an hour long round trip. Depsite having tandooris closer in Wooler, Alnwick, Rothbury and Berwick - it's worth it every time. The curry is of a consistently excellent level, the staff are friendly and professional. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering that portion sizes are bigger than at most restaurants. Despite the long drive, we go at least once a month and even drove through a Northumbrian blizzard once to get one (that was a 5 hour round trip), with roads coming up as rivers swelled over.

Absolutely excellent curry - very very highly recommended and so much better than anywhere else in the neighbourhood!

“Love this place”
Reviewed May 12, 2012 via mobile

If a curry is to be had, it is to be had here! Food is generally great, as is the friendly service! One thing is that it can lack atmosphere due to few people being in at times. However, I always enjoy myself there and I would definitely recommend!

“Rubbish”
Reviewed May 5, 2012 via mobile

Ordered a takeaway for collection. It wasn't ready when they said it would be and we had to wait in the restaurant for fifteen minutes. There was no one in the restaurant so don't know what the hold up was ???? The food was terrible and the veg curry tasted like burnt butter!! Never again prefer the dalchini in Alnwick

“Average curry and needs better service, plus turn the heating on !”
Reviewed April 8, 2012 via mobile

Turned up about 6:30pm, service was sow, food was ok but not great. The staff seemed uninterested, and quite surly. The place was quite cold and the made no effort to het the place up. Won't be going back in a hurry, prefer Dalchini or Varanda in Alnwick.
