This is a really nice local restaurant, a refuge for those of us who prefer independents to chains. The menu is quite inventive, prices reasonable, and service very good indeed. This is a fine place ot eat in Alnwick.

The whole dining experience couldn't be faulted. Friendly efficient service and beautiful food in a characteristic setting. Even though the restaurant was busy the staff were professional and extremely friendly with all customers. Will definitely eat here again and again.

We have been to Lilburns before during the day and found the food very good, tonight we were going to the tapas restaurant in Alnwick only to find it is now closed. We went to Lilburns and ordered steaks which arrived in good time. Unfortunately the steaks were unseasoned and pretty bland, the peppercorn sauce seemed to be lacking peppercorns, the chips were tasteless. The mushrooms when pressed exuded oil and the batter on the onion rings had a strange fishy taste. I could not fault the staff they were friendly and the service quick but the food just lacked taste, I hate to criticize local places but maybe the chef should season the food a bit more.

We arrived at 12.07 on a hot Saturday, sat at a table and ordered two panini for ourselves, and ham sandwiches for the child. Sandwich arrived much earlier than the panini but without the promised chips. Eventually we had all the food.

About 30 minutes after we arrived, and in the middle of eating, the waitress slapped a "Reserved" sign on our table and told us we'd have to leave in 30 minutes as this table was booked. There were other empty tables she could have put the sign on.

Eventually we had to ask for the rest of the boys sandwich and chips to be wrapped to take out ad our time had expired. A shame as it soured the experience. Have been before and seen service issues. Food was okay though, nice chips.

I would hesitate before going back.

WE arrived late in Alnwick and were warned it would be difficult to get into the better eateries in the town as they all get booked up - so we discovered! Lilburn's, however, found us a table and we had a decent meal with a nice bottle of wine. What made the place stand out was the friendliness of the staff and they made the evening memorable for us - thank you.
