“Wonderful location, Friendly staff”

I had to take my 12 year old to see the Alnwick Castle where "Harry Potter" was filmed. I needed a central accomodation since I would not have a car. The Greycroft was only a few minutes walking distance from the Castle and anywhere you needed to reach in town. For breakfast there is a full menu, but since we are on dietary restrictions, the owners were more than happy to adjust the items for us. The rooms were very clean and the area was quiet. Owners are very knowlegeable on the area and will help set up taxi's and give you tour and site seeing information.

Room Tip: The family room is very spacious with enough room to comfortably fit four. Two adults and two childr...

We stayed for two nights on the 6th & 7th August, prior to arriving Tom had sent a listing of websites with recommendations for local restaurants, places of interest etc, so we were able to book somewhere in advance to eat. On arriving Audrey explained where everything was incliding fresh fruit and milk and chilled bottled water in the fridge. The bedroom was lovely, we stayed in the Red Room which was tastefully decorated and had a lovely bathroom wih shower. Breakfast was served at a time when you wanted it it was very nice particularly the choice of fresh fruit which included raspberries, strawberries & blueberries plus a large selection of cereal, this was followed by a large cooked breakfast. Tom & Audrey are a lovely couple and make you feel very welcome in their house. I would certainly recommend Greycroft as the place to stay in Alnwick as its so close to the castle and there is a good choice of restaurants and pubs within walking distance.

Room Tip: The Red Room has a nice view overlooking the garden

We have stayed in many b&bs over the years, some good, some not so good but this is easily the best. Audrey and Tom make you feel very welcome to their home (Audrey says she wants it to feel like your own home but without the chores!), as soon as we arrived we were given a welcoming cup of tea and a selection of biscuits. Tom gave us a map of Alnwick and pointed out several places of interest in the town. There was also free sherry, mead, sweets and (in a fridge on the landing outside the bedrooms) bottled water and fresh milk. Another nice touch is the fact that you are always addressed by your first name. The breakfast was very good with a good choice (which you made the night before which meant it was freshly made to order as soon as you were seated in the lovely sunroom overlooking the garden). Nothing was too much trouble for Audrey and Tom - after an afternoon exploring Alnwick and nearby Alnmouth (a lovely, relatively quiet beach only 4 miles away) we returned to find Audrey making fresh tea for us to enjoy in the garden. The bedroom (we had room 6) was well appointed with a nice en-suite. Greycroft is on a quiet side street only 5 minutes walk from the main part of the town and has ample private parking. There is plenty to do and see in Alnwick itself and we will certainly be back soon.

This must be one of the very best B&Bs. and much better than many a hotel that we have stayed in. It has the added advantage of a warm welcome from Tom and Audrey, who are excellent hosts, but not too obtrusive. Our room looked out over their delightful garden and was very comfortable, with lights over the bed so that you can really see to read, good tea supplied with nice cups and a teapot, and "real" milk in a fridge just outside the bedroom doors (hotels please note all of these points). There was also a Freeview TV and a bedside radio alarm clock.

The bathroom was small, but had all that you need, including a stand with space for your own toiletries, razors and toothbrushes. Nevertheless, the shower cubicle was very roomy - with somewhere to put the soap and shampoo, so often lacking in hotel showers.

Breakfast was excellent, cooked for the time at which you said you would appear: perhaps a pity that you have to predict the day before, hospital-like, what you are going to want the next morning. There are number of reasonably good restaurants for your evening meal a few minutes' walk away and some good pubs too. Also, the main attractions of Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Gardens are five minutes' walk: you can have your ticket validated for use over one year, so that you can go back again during your stay.

Tom and Audrey provide masses of information about all the attractiions within reach as well as recommendations for restaurants. All in all, a very pleasant and relxing place to stay

Room Tip: The location is very quiet. Rooms overlooking the garden are good, but the others must, I think, ove...

Greycroft is ideally situated in a quiet location, but within easy walking distance of the main shopping area. Alnwick itself is an ideal place to base yourself in whilst exploring the beautiful Northumberland countryside and coast. Only half an hour from Bamburgh, and a little less from Craster, both these places are a must see.
We had the twin room, and it was beautifully decorated with an en suite bathroom (rather small but with a large shower) and with tea and coffee making facilities in the room it was great to come back to after a hard day sightseeing.
Breakfast was wonderful, with bowls of fresh raspberries, strawberries and blueberries as well as all the usual cereals and fruit juices. This was followed by an array of choices from full fried breakfast to scrambled eggs with smoked salmon ( I had this twice!)
We were luck enough to have sunny weather, and the wonderful garden was a great place to sit in the sun and unwind after a very full day.
The fridge on the landing with complementary water has been mentioned by others, but there was also 'proper' milk in there too in case you didn't want to use the long life cartons in the room - a nice touch.
This is a place where nothing has been left to chance and both Audrey and Tom go out of their way to make your stay a good one. I can highly recommend it.
Thank you both for a wonderful four days!

Greycroft is very well situated for a visit to Alnwick being only a few minutes walk from the town centre, restaurants and tourist attractions but in a secluded location. The hosts were most welcoming and friendly with a fund of local knowledge and information - freely given, very easy to get along with. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and well appointed with a fund of unexpected 'extras'. The quality breakfasts was superb with plenty of choice. Try the excellent Craster kipper option. One of those places where you know you have made the right choice within minutes. We certainly hope to return.
