After staying at The Plough (not sure whether recent name change from Blackmore's?) in Alnwick for a short break over the Food & Festival it was pleasing to see that Jean Christophe Novelli was also staying in the hotel - put up by the organisers of the event must be a good recommendation for the owners. Overall the rooms were excellent and the hotel was a mixture of pub, bistro, restaurant and function room and was well run by the hard-working staff (most of whom seemed to have several roles within the business!!) We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel the only minor blip was the heating in some of the rooms seemed to be a bit hit and miss during our stay, and the noise in the rooms due to outside traffic (and no double glazing) could bother others, however, the beds were that comfortable that it wasn't an issue...

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6 that was on the top floor at the front of the hotel and seemed to be larger than...

Was here for business with work for four days. Saw the other reviews - those about rubbish food, poor service and untidy/unclean rooms. None of it true in my experience. Rooms clean and comfortable, food good (not 'amazing', but reasonable) and friendly enough service. I've nothing to complain about. Not sure I'd ever go for dinner alone, but I'm not going to knock the place. When they say the rooms have wi-fi, though, this depends on where you are in the building. You can get it in the bar, though.

Excellent evening meal with very reasonable prices and friendly staff in a building that has been renovated in a modern style which does not overpower the old building. Well worth a visit for lunch or in the evening. The portions are generous and the food is well presented and tasty.

We had just been for a walk in northumberland natinal park to lynehope spout very nice walk as well. we had booked on line the day beforehand and when we arrived were met by the receptionist, who was very nice, although to start with she couldnt find or booking she soon resolved that problem,we were shown to our room,10,what a nice little surprise we had there was a door on to a small sitting area for this room only. The room it self although a little bit tight ,at foot of bed by the tv,was very nice indeed. We had our evening meal in the restraunt there ,and it was lovely,we were served by the waitress, didnt catch her name, who was very good and must be praised for a very good job of looking after all the diners to a high standard.Breakfast was good, with a nice choice. Now to be extremly picky only 2 things, they had run out of Brown Ale and Real Ale also the matress on the bed was 2 singles which i ended up between.I would recomend this place for anybody to stay as it was very good

had a nice, good value evening meal with family. The upstairs dining room is lovely very smart and contempary.
Very good selection of food, the childrens menu was okay however huge portions.
Service was also good, it was quiet so not much atmosphere however the downstairs bar was busy.

Stayed here as part of a wedding. No phones, very uncomfortable beds. Door doesnt shut propperly, general poor build quality, roasting hot. Terrible breakfast. Whole place shakes when a door is closed. No Internet. 4 tv channels. Can hear a mouse fart in other rooms. Crap, just crap! Oh and £115 per night for the displeasure!

Staff were very friendly and helpful so a real plus for the hotel! However as for the rest I was not so impressed. Charge was £80 B&B, not cheap and they need to pull their socks up to warrant that sort of charge. My room was freezing on arrival, it seemed "a cleaner" had decided to turn the thermostat off for ALL the rooms - it was very warm downstairs in the bar area. Then there was the 3x1 inch hole in one of my windown frames that had to be blocked up with a towel to stop the snow and wind coming through! The there was the bathroom with one of those systems that chews up waste when flushing, noisey and leaking. Oh well let's try breakfast, don't bother - poor and limited in choice. Sooner stay at a Holiday Inn where I know I get value for money sorry.
