This was our first trip to Northumberland and its such a fantastic place. The historical sites are many and just take your breath away. We spent 6 days touring around and there is just so much to see that we only fitted in a small part of what we wanted. We cant wait to go back.

Alnwick is a lovely place and very well positioned for most of the interesting places. We moved up to stay a couple of nights in Berwick upon Tweed and wished we hadnt, I would definitely stay around Alnwick. Make sure you visit Dunstanbrough Castle and Holy Island especially.

We normally stay in hotels but I saw rave reviews for West Acre House on Trip Advisor and booked it for 2 nights. The house itself is stunning and the roomas are decorated to the highest standard/finish. Its also the little things that really make the difference from lovely toiletries in the room to tea and cake on arrival to loads of information and advice on what to do to a very large landscaped garden that is so relaxing to sit in ansd walk around.

Leaving the best until last - Bruce and Jeannette are fantastic. They make you feel so welcome and are just so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were superb and they have a way of making everyone feel relaxed and comfortable. They are a mine of information and the places they recommended for us to eat at were spot on

I would give West Acre my highest recommendation - i cannot think how it could have been better. Do vist Northumberland if you havnt, do stay in Alnwick and do stay with Bruce and Jeanette at West Acre House.

Excellent service with great attention to detail. Responsive to our needs and requirements. Great welcome and made to feel at home.

Jeannette and Bruce were ideal hosts and were always ready to offer help and attend to our needs. For example, despite not being told about any particular dietary requirements they picked up my wife's preference for avoiding wheat and couldn't be more helpful in providing oat cakes and gluten-free bread. They provided helpful advice and guidance on where to eat and visit (and where not to go too), all of which proved invaluable.

Rooms (we had two during our stay) were luxurious yet homely with everything you could possibly want provided for - including an extensive selection of DVDs for viewing should you want a quiet evening in. All the usual facilities were there along with lots of additional touches, with fresh fruit, biscuits and even Murray mints provided every day in your room. You just knew that you only needed to ask if you wished for something else and they would do their best to accommodate you.

Alnwick is an excellent centre for seeing the region being fairly central to both coast and countryside. Easy travelling distances to so many attractions meant it was possible to do one thing in the morning and another in the afternoon without feeling hurried or stressed. There are more castles and prestigious houses in the area than the most hardened tourist can manage in a week, all with ready access; those with National Trust or English Heritage membership are very well catered for.

The town itself (11 mins walk to centre from West Acre House) has numerous good restaurants and, of course, the must-see Alnwick Garden which is developing and extending all the time (a bit more expensive than most attractions but definitely keep it on your itinerary - younger kids really found using the pedal-tractors to carry water hugely enjoyable and everyone found the treehouse fascinating).

There are plenty of places to eat out during the day too and if you wanted a low-cost lunch then there are Sainsbury and Morrison supermarkets in town to buy provisions. As you would expect with tourism key to the region, most attractions have cafes or restaurants either on-site or nearby so there is no need to want for sustenance or to browse for that unique gift in the numerous specialist shops. We were pleased to note that the general standard of shops was good to excellent with hardly a bad one to be found.

We really found the people friendly and welcoming and the villages charming and characterful; clearly careful consideration is given to maintaining that unique Northumberland heritage.

The only disappointment (a small one) to our stay was that there appeared to be very little original craft work specific to Northumberland. Ordinarily a region tends to have its local specialities such as Pontefract cakes and Bakewell pudding (trust a man to use food related examples) but there was no woollen or other indigenous crafts that we could find readily on sale.

Overall great place to visit with some excellent attractions and restaurants. Truly excellent accommodation at West Acre House.

This has to be the one of the best B and B you will ever find. I certainly have not stayed anywhere nicer. You can tell that Bruce and Jeanette have a great passion for what they do. They have thought of everything to make their guests feel comfortable and very welcome. The rooms are shear luxury beautifully furnished and appointed with everything you might need including a decanter of sherry and fresh fruit. You arrive and feel welcomed into their home with a cup of tea and cake. I cannot recommend West Acre House and Bruce and Jeanette highly enough.

We were very pleased to discover this marvellous B&B through TripAdvisor. We stayed for four nights and we could have happily stayed much longer. Bruce & Jeanette are a credit to Northumbrian hospitality. They go out of their way to make your stay extra special. There are not many places like this. If you are thinking of booking, don't hesitate. We're sure that, like us, you will want to return again very soon.

We were made very welcome by Bruce and Jeanette, nothing was too much trouble. If you are thinking of staying in the Alnwick area we recommend that this should be your first choice for B&B accommodation.

We have just returned from an enjoyable two night stay in this lovely country house. From the moment we arrived until we left we were made to feel very welcome. The accommodation is of an exceptionally high standard with generous complimentary extras. Breakfast in the dining room is a varied buffet followed by a delicious cooked to order meal using local produce. Bruce and Jeanette are friendly and helpful and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
