Upon arriving at this hotel, we were told by the odd receptionist, who shuffled in bemused, that it was strange that we had arrived as they had no reservations for the evening.
This was strange as it had been booked over a month ago over the phone.
The receptionist, first telling us that wasn't true (as they had bookings in July this was apparently proof that we hadn't booked) then proceeded to tell us that we wouldn't be able to have a room as they were fully booked, a direct contradiction to her opening comments.
Myself and the other guest suggested that we should wait for 10 minutes to see what the booker could find. We were told, in no uncertain terms, not to argue with her and asked to leave the premises until we could find "actual, concrete proof".
I understand that the situation was an odd one, but the receptionist had taken the unusual stance of assuming that we had decided to show up at the hotel as a prank, with suitcases for show.
We left the premises without further interaction with the receptionist, feeling rather offended by the whole situation. At no point were we made to feel welcome by the establishment.
Advice to consumers: double check all reservations booked.
Advice to the hotel: retrain your receptionist about the basic principles of customer care.

I simply cannot recommend this establishment to any potential traveller.

Had Christmas lunch there with my husband and his mother
We were well looked after
The meal was really good .. choice of meats .. all fresh veg , roasted potatoes to die for and a very tasty cauliflower cheese..
staff were lovely and attentive despite being full ... but didn’t feel it

If you want some decent ‘pub’ food in Rothwell then this is place to go. For some reason it doesn’t get very busy In the restaurant but don’t let this put you off, the food is first class. Reasonable prices and good service. The steak I had for £10.95 was twice the size as the one I paid more for at a local beefeater recently and (unlike there) was cooked to perfection & they willingly changed the chips (which I don’t like) for 4 large pieces of French-stick garlic bread!, individual lasagnes my friends had were huge! Sticky toffee pudding & custard £3.95 was to die for! Give it a try

Very Disappointed and furious to be given a room that was out dated, rotten dirty carpets, lumpy stained old beds, disabled bathroom that needs updating and being charged £80 !!!! I would not recommend staying here to anyone. On the upside, the breakfast was very good.

Very well placed hotel, centrally located. Excellent bedroom, lovely 4 poster bed - really comfy. Plentiful supply of tea/coffee facilities upon arrival - really useful after a long journey. Really helpful staff - lovely and quiet despite the close vicinity of the Fair.
Thoroughly recommended
