“Not an "adventure" park”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

I really do not believe you can call this an adventure park as it seems to gear itself up for younger, smaller children. However the rides are ideal for the younger child probably up to the ages of 12 or 13. The grounds are very nice and there is plenty of parking space and grassy area for playing ball games and for picnics. There are also a number of places that you can buy hot dogs, and ice creams and also snack bars where you can get burger and chips or sandwiches. The parking costs £6 and adult entrance £9 so it won't break the bank if you want to spend the day out in the good old English fresh air!

“great family day out”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

wicksteed cannot compare with some of the bigger theme parks, but as a good place to take the children for a reasonably priced day out it is excellent. there are plenty of exciting rides, but none of the white knuckle rides that some better known theme parks have, but wicksteed doesn't charge the prices they do! if you are looking for a very reasonable priced day out take the children to wicksteed, buy a wrist band or a book of tickets, or just enjoy the wide range of free rides in the playground area.

“A good day out - but not as good as it could be”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We go here quote frequently with our children, we have even taken 2 birthday parties here with 10 children so we know this place quite well and I have to say I think it getting a bit tired now.

We always buy the childrens wristbands at £16.50 each or sometimes use Tesco clubcard vouchers to purchase wristbands. That way the children can go on as many rides as they like without it costing the earth!

There are a fair few rides here that the children like - they love the Ice Rink, the Lasertag and the big slides and the water rides when they are working - but the rest is wearing a bit thin now. The roller coasters are quite small and in need of an update....they will only keep the smallest of children amused.

The whole place looks a bit tired and shabby and in need of an upgrade. They also charge you £5 to park, which is a bit steep I think. The food onsite is not bad - but we always take a picnic because most of the food on offer is fried.

On the whole this is a reasonable day out and kids can have quite a lot of fun here - but if they tidied the place up and out in a few extra rides (or fixed others) it would be so much better.

“Nice day out, but over-priced”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Before I carry-on, overall we had a reasonable day out at Wicksteed Park, and the kids enjoyed themselves.

HOWEVER...to be honest I think the whole thing is really over-priced for what is on offer. The rides are tired, and considering today was supposed to be the first 'full' day with 'all' rides open, the vast majority were closed. "It's due to the weather" was the standard response, however it was fine today, little wind (although freezing cold!), dry and no snow about - why the vast majority of the rides were closed I don't know.

I would say not to bother with the tickets, and get a wristband - it probably works-out cheaper for the vast majority of folks.

In addition, do the staff actually receive any training before they are let loose on the public? Don't get me wrong they were all very pleasant and tried to help as much as they could, but to be brutally honest the vast majority of them didn't have a clue (mainly in the 'catering' areas). Most of them didn't even know where all the stuff was kept...very poor really. The impression we had was that they were just shown an area to stand in and told "Do the best you can...". Half of me felt sorry for them, but the other half just got more and more annoyed each time we had to deal with them.

It's naturally very early on in the season, but today was supposed to be the first day the park was fully-open - it certainly wasn't.

With some more attention to detail, better staff training and some investment this park could be a real Gem.

“Kettering by the Sea”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

A bit like jumping back 30 years and being by the sea...except you're in Kettering and about as far from the sea as possible. Kids under 8 will adore it, kids under 12 will tolerate it and kids over 12 will moan about it. Good, non commercialised British fun park with some novel rides.
