“Conference experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

I stayed here for a conference and was not that impressed by the venue. I imagine if youre playing golf it comes into its own but without that element its a very average experience.
The standard room I had was dated with a sloped roof and a velux window which meant I had no view of the grounds. The mobile phone reception throughout the building is very poor so you have to go outside and walk around to get a signal.
The conference rooms are OK and the facilities are well laid out. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel and again it was OK but bland, the service was good however and the bar staff in the evening where very friendly and polite, try the electronic bowling alley for a bit of diversion in the evening.
I cant really fault the hotel too much it just lacks anything to make it stand out from the crowd.

“It's a Hotel.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

There is nothing about this hotel that makes it stand out apart from the views over the golf course. Food is better than good, but still hotel food.

“Another Spa Break....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

My friend and I booked a spa break in July but had to postpone due to a bereavement, and so went yesterday.
Firstly the hotel was busy, a big wedding and a large contingent of golfers. Our rooms were ready when I first arrived at 11:30, which was impressive. Staff overall were excellent, the trainee on reception having more people skills than the regular receptionist.
The rooms were clean, plenty big enough and staff gave extra coffee and milk when requested. Bed linen was clean and not torn. View from window wasn't up to much but we weren't in the rooms long enough for it to matter. Plenty of towels and toiletries.
Spa break cost us £179 each as we like our own rooms which comes at a whopping £50 single supplement. This includes 3 course evening meal, full breakfast, 2 course lunch and a 50 minute or 2 x 25 minute spa treatment, plus full use of the facilities, IMO it's good value.
The food was good, well cooked and nicely presented but portions were on the small side, ie the salmon fish cakes starter, the two fish cakes were approx 3cm size.
Spa treatment was nice but I was kept waiting for ages while she attended to hotel guests (having no-one on spa reception is a big mistake) after been taken through at 10 am, she told me it would make no difference to the treatment time but was still done by 10:45, no way was that at 50 minute treatment. The relaxation room was a room off the terrace bar, yes it was quiet but ordinary bar chairs and tables and very warm/stuffy. No music, no reclining chairs, no mood lighting........plus jug of warm, stale water and just dregs in jug of orange juice.
So improvements could be made which would certainly bring up its ratings.
